    Ralph C. SHONK, 71, 521 W. Third Street, died at 3:57 a.m. today in Woodlawn hospital, where he had been a patient or 2 1/2 weeks. He had been in failing health for several years. Born in Fulton county Nov. 30, 1893, he was the son of William and Caroline GUISE SHONK. Mr. Shonk's first wife, Marie WILSON, preceded him in death and he was married April 7, 1928 in Mishawaka to Mable McCAY, who died June 7, 1964. Mr. Shonk, a lifetime resident of Fulton county, was a retired employee of the Studebaker corporation. He was a member of the Prairie Grove E.U.B. church and the WCTU. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Judy SHONK, at home, and Mrs. Gerald (June) CAVENDER, who recently returned home from missionary duties in South America; a son, John [SHONK], Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn EILER, Rochester, and Mrs. Verna LACKEY, Whittier, Cal.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Otis (Beulah) BURKETT, Rochester, and Mrs. Mary Alice METZLER, Rochester; ten grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. C. J. MOWRER officiating. Burial will be in the Kewanna I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Saturday.

    John William SHONK, 80, a pioneer retired farmer of this community, passed away Friday Evening, 9:10 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jerry Metzler, of this city. Death resulted from carcinoma following a year's illness. Mr. Shonk had a host of friends throughout Fulton county.
    John W., son of David and Lydia SHONK, was born in Pulaski county, Indiana on February 9th, 1865 and had been a resident of Rochester township for 76 years. He was twice wed, his first wife being Mrs. Caroline GUISE and his second marriage was to Minnie DAVIS. This ceremony was solemnized in Rochester on October 22nd, 1905. Mr. Shonk followed the occupation of farming until ill health forced his retirement. For many years he resided on the Shonk farm, which is situated a short distance northwest of Rochester.
    Surviving are three children by his first marriage, Mrs. H. S. LACKEY, of Ocean Side, Calif; Evelyn SHONK, of this city; Ralph SHONK, of Leiters Ford; two daughters by his second marriage, Mrs. Otis BURKETT, Mrs. Jerry METZLER, both of Rochester, and nine grandchildren. Two sisters preceded him in death.
    Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, 2:30 o'clock at the Foster funeral home. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF cemetery. The body lies in state at the Foster funeral home, where friends may call.

    Mrs. Caroline SHONK, 85, died at 9:25 a.m. today at her home, 317 East 14th street, this city. Death resulted from complications which followed several bone fractures. She had been ill for the past three years. Mrs. Shonk had resided in Rochester for 49 years, coming here from Kewanna. She was born Jan. 6, 1870, southeast of Kewanna. Her parents were Beneville and Mary (MILLER) GUISE. In 1888, at Winamac she was married to William SHONK, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Shonk, who was the last child of a family of 10, was a member of the Rochester Trinity E.U.B. church. Surviving are two daughters, Evelyn SHONK, this city, and Mrs. Verna LACKEY, Whittier, Cal.; one son, Ralph SHONK, Rochester; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Two sons preceded her in death in infancy. Friends may call at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home. Funeral arrangements are pending.

    The Rochester Sentinel, Tuesday, May 1, 1917:
    David SHONK, 78, died at his farm home, nine miles southwest of Rochester, Monday at 10:40 a.m., a victim of senility. While he had been ill, or failing, for practically a year, Mr. Shonk was able Sunday to be out of doors. Funeral Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Rochester U.B. church, Rev. G. B. CRANE in charge. Interment in I.O.O.F. cemetery.
    Mr. Shonk leaves besides a widow one son, William SHONK, northeast of the city, and 12 grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Frank MULLENCOPF, preceded him. One granddaughter, Miss Ollie MULLENCOPF, made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Shonk. Mr. Shonk was one of Rochester township's pioneer farmers, moving to the farm where he died about 40 years ago.

    Benneville GUISE, a native of Pennsylvania but for nearly forty years a resident of this county, died at his home near Kewanna, Wednesday, aged 74 years. In 1842 he was united in marriage with Sarah WENTZEL, who died in 1865 leaving six children. He afterward married Mrs. Anna MILLER and to this union were born 10 children. Deceased was a man widely known for his integrity and generosity and his prosperity gave him additional influence as a wealthy citizen. The funeral was conducted at Kewanna, Friday, by Rev. A. E. GIFT, of this city. The concourse of people attending being one of the largest ever seen in Kewanna.

    Catharine Hippard Shonk was born around 1814 in Pennsylvania. She passed away on May 16, 1864 in Pulaski County, Indiana. She migrated with her husband, George Shonk from Pennsylvania to Linn Township, Cedar County, Iowa before 1850, and later to Salam, Pulaski County, Indiana.
