Fred Bollinger was born in 1888 in Bessarabia, Russia. In 1902 at the age of fourteen years, he moved with his brother to South Dakota. He came to Canada in 1909 and worked on a pipeline between Cypress Hills and Walsh. In 1910, Fred married Christina Hoff, daughter of Ludwig Hoff. They settled on a homestead in the Hilda district where they lived in a two roomed house with dirt floors. Three daughters were born. Mary, Martha and Rosie. Times were very hard, so in 1917 they moved to the Robinson district to farm. Two sons, Arthur and Edwin, were born. In 1929, they moved again, this time to the Berry Centre area on the former John Lehr farm along the Ross Creek, where they farmed and ranched. In 1936, another son, Freddie, was born. They lived in a two-story home, part of which was moved there to make it large enough. The original home was a log and mud house which they used as their summer kitchen and later used to hold their neighborhood dances in. This house was later pulled away needing six tractors to move it. Fred was well known for his horse trading. They would never know when he'd come home with a different one. They would go for miles by horse and sleigh for visiting. The children attended school at Berry Centre, where they either walked or went on horse back. On June 16, 1941, Fred passed away suddenly of a heart attack. By this time only the boys were home, and they continued farming. In 1943, Arthur married and left home, and Edwin went to work shortly after, which left Freddie at a very young age with his mother, Christina, to run the family farm. Christina retired to Medicine Hat in October 1952. She lived in her own home on 9th St. SE where she had a large garden. She loved her garden and plants and did all her own yard and house work. In the spring of 1985, she decided to sell her home to the First Assembly of God Church, in which she was very active, and she moved into the Maranatha Villa. Her house was later torn down and the lot is now used for church parking. At ninety-six years of age, she is still in fairly good health. Fred and Christina had six children, three sons and three daughters. Mary married John Zeller. They have three children, Harry, Darlene and Violet. Martha married Ted Schneider. They have three children, Dorothy, Merle and Vernon. They have four children, Betty Ann, Clifford, Karen and Janice Freddie married Beatrice Stuber. They have four children, Dennis, Rodney, Darrell and Sherry
