Thelma was born to Andrew and Cecilia Ah Ya in Puna, village of Pahoa, on the island of Hawaii.
Age 80, she met and married Elmer Milton Griess.
They settled in Sanger, Ca. and remained happily together until Elmer's death in June of 1997. Together they raised their two daughters, Ann and Deborah.
While known to her Hawaiian family as Aunt Lei, most know her as Thelma.
She enjoyed tending her roses and collecting dolls and teddy bears.
In past years, bowling and playing bingo provided much entertainment for her while later participating in her local Convalescent Hospital, where she developed a lot of long-lasting friendships with her coworkers, whom she considered her dear friends. She was also a member of VFW Post 884 in Fresno.
Thelma is predeceased by her parents Andrew and Cecilia, her beloved husband Elmer, her sister Helen and brothers Banaba Palenapakananiopuna, Andres Kaul, Oliver Ku'ikahi, Herman Kamakawiwo'ole'ehu, Gabriel Kalani, Richard Ikoa, and James.
She is survived by her children, Ann and her husband Don McKeral, Debbie Sargenti and her companion Janeen; her grandchildren Courtney, Donnie and his wife Bellina, Mathew and his companion Eddie, and Ronnie; her great-grandchildren Kristofer,Kevin, Ronnie II and Drake; her brother Paul Keahikumuhonua, Wilfred and sisters Rose, Virginia, Kawahilani and Marilyn.
She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family, as well as many friends. She will be missed by all and per her request there will be no Memorial Service, she wished all to live the Aloha Spirit wherever you are.Familie/Ehepartner: Griess, Elmer Milton.
