Betty Lou Genzlinger, 90, formerly of Howard, SD, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at The Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine, Belle Plaine. MN. Visitation will begin on Sunday at noon, at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard, SD, with a Prayer Service to start at 3:00 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 pm , Monday, November 25, at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD, with Rev Olaf Roysnesdal and Rev Rick Senner officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Howard, SD.Betty Lou Genzlinger, the daughter of Fredrick and Charlotte (Hexom) Rogers was born November 14, 1923 in Madison, SD. She was raised in the Madison area where she graduated from Madison High School. After graduation, she and her family moved to Omaha, NE, where Betty Lou worked for the Glen L. Martin-Nebraska Bomber Plant, during World War II wartime. On April 8, 1945, Betty Lou was united in marriage with Junior Genzlinger in Clinton, IA, after Junior returned from his service in the war. The couple moved to Omaha, NE and also lived a short time in Winfred, SD, before finally settling in Howard, where they raised their three daughters. Later in life, they lived in Madison, SD and Chanhassen, MN. Betty Lou was formerly employed by KJAM radio, in the Howard studio, as a broadcaster for the Howard area news. She was also employed as a rural mail carrier substitute during the time her husband was called to active duty service while in the National Guard. Betty Lou was a member of St John's Lutheran Church in Howard, and later, the Bethany Lutheran Church in Howard. She also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary in Howard. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, and especially enjoyed bowling on the Ladies' Bowling League. Betty Lou treasured her family and was active in her children's lives, serving as a leader for Brownie Scouts, Girl Scouts, and a 4-H club, and was also involved in her daughters' school activities. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband: Junior of Madison; three daughters: Renee' (Joe) Deiter of Casper, WY, Valerie (Gary) Kuhl of Madison, SD, and Gayle (Wayne) Wenzlaff of Chanhassen; three grandchildren: Tara Deiter, Andrea Wenzlaff, and Jason (Carrie) Kuhl; two great grandchildren: Katie Deiter and Maxen Kuhl; and a brother: Robert (Cookie) Rogers, She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Darwin Rogers; a sister, Dorothy Rose; and a grandson, Trevor Deiter.
