His funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Allen Lang officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. today until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is requested to meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Julius Hoffman was born Oct. 18, 1896, to Jacob and Katharina (Goehring) Hoffman at the family farm near Eureka. This is where he attended school. He attended college at Redfield. After college he returned home to start his own farm near Long Lake. He married Mary Retzer Jan 4, 1920, at Long Lake. They continued to farm and ranch until 1967 when they retired and moved to Aberdeen. Mrs. Hoffman died in 1984. He continued to live in Aberdeen. He was a past Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ church deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Gideons. Survivors include four sons, Oliver, Ipswich; Melvin, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Milo and Walter, both of Aberdeen; one brother, Edward, Eureka; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers and four sisters. The Casketbearers will be Mike Hoffman, Floyd Hoffman, Gerald Saylor and Robert Retzer, all of Aberdeen; Richard Aman, Miles City, Mont.; and Loven Stoecker, Tolstoy. Honorary Casketbearers will be all of his friends. The organist will be Phillip Wyse and the soloist will be Robert E. Olson. Ushers will be Howard Levi and Merrile Olsen. Andreas and Carolina with seven children (Friedrich, Johann, Heinrich, Christine, Albina, Jacob and Katharina) departed Hamburg, Germany on September 29, 1880 aboard the SS Herder. The Lehr family settled in Hanson County, South Dakota. Katharina married Peter Reich about 1903, and they settled in North Dakota. They had these children: Ida, Mrs. Steve Stavou (1903-1989), Emma, Mrs. Thomas McGrath (1906-1992), Lydia, Mrs. Chester Eldredge (1908-1992), Barbara (1909-?), Elsie, Mrs. Raymond Harvey (1912-1971), John Reich (1914-1970) and Fred Reich (1916-1997). Peter Lehr was born on 5 March 1881 near Emery, South Dakota. Here he spent his childhood and went to school. On 30 September 1902 he married Sophie Triebwasser and worked at farming until 1906 when they moved near Alpena. In 1909 he moved into the town of Alpena, where he took over a business and later had a laundry business. He became ill about a year ago. In May of this year, he became very ill and was brought to the hospital. In February 1932 he gave his heart to God and to his end he was faithful. His end came on 7 June at 3:30 o'clock in the afternoon at St. Joseph Hospital in Huron, South Dakota. He was 68, 3 months and 2 day of age. The deceased was a member of the Bethlehem Congregational Community in Alpena. He leaves behind his bereaved wife, four sons, Edward (1903-1979), Huron, SD, burial unknown, Herold and John of Alpena and Leonard of Kalamazoo, MI, four daughters, Mrs. Manuel Mogck, Huron, SD, Mrs. W. Dolesche in Alpena, Lucy, Mrs. Leslie Elsworth (1909-1987), Denver, CO, burial unknown and Mrs. P.H. Lund, Alpena, 21 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. They moved to Longfellow Township, McLean County, ND with a family of 8 children in 1905 and settled 4 miles west of Underwood, ND. A small shell of a house was built first and as the farm buildings were completed, this house later became the main grainary. Gottlieb's birth record can be found in the St Petersburg, Russia records for Johannestal in the Rohrbach Parish of South Russia on LDS Microfilm # 1884103/2 Pg 641 Reg 27. Gottlieb and his wife Christina are listed in the 1910 McLean County, ND Census records along with their children, Henry age 22, Gustaf age 20, Albert age 19, Reinholt age 14, and Juluis age 12. After the death of his wife, he married a widow lady, Rosina (Fauth) Oster with 3 children. They added four more children to the family. He and his second wife moved to Garrison in 1928 where Phillip worked in the coal mine. Born 25 Nov 1770 in Rountzenheim, Bischweiler, Alsace, France which is recorded as Rountzenheim, Bas-Rhin, France in FHL. Age is listed as 33 in 1803. Birth also listed as 1772. RESIDENCE: Left during the height of the French Revolution and walked to Russia with the following families: Becker, Metzger, Naas and Dockter.
