Ed and Helen farmed on Ed's family farm until 1948, when they purchased their own farm on the Blue River north of Sutton. In 1958, they purchased a resort near Alexandria, Minnesota. By the time he retired in 1998, he had held many jobs and lived in many places, both in Minnesota and Nebraska, including working at an ordinance plant in Grand Island, Nebraska during the Viet Nam War and managing a turkey ranch near Litchfield, Minnesota.
Ed enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and working with wood.

Ex-Conrad Man Killed in Honduras
Robert Gordon Moser, 36, a Conrad native, was shot and killed in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, according to information received here. Circumstances of the death were not available.
Moser was an importer and exporter in the Central American Country, going there from Salt Lake City in 1969.
Born April 4, 1934, at Conrad, he was reared in the Conrad-Brady area and farmed with his father for several years before going to Salt Lake as a salesman in 1967.
Survivors include the widow, Linda; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Moser, Conrad; two sisters, Mrs. James Emerson, Yakima, Wash., Mrs. Ed. Bradseth, Vancouver, Wash., sons, Rodney Alan and Robert Lee; a daughter, Betty Mae Moser; grandparents, Mrs. Hannah Moser, and Mrs. Rosa Keller, all of Conrad.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Conrad Mission Church, burial in the Conrad Cemetary under direction of Croxford & Son Mortuary of Great Falls.

Frances May Aley was the youngest child of William Ceymore Aley & Gertrude Lavina Sagendorf. Her 5 siblings were Mary Alice, Malvina Elizabeth, Harriet Augusta, Andrew Seymore and Frankie Seymore Aley.
She married William Lucian Blitzkie on 1 Jan 1893 in Redbird, Nebraska. They had four children, Elsie Mae, Homer Lee, Inda Frances and Lee H. Blitzkie.

Mrs. Christina Schlecht, 82, pioneer resident of the Gackle community, died Monday afternoon, August 23, 1965, at High-Acres Manor in Jamestown where she had been a resident for about seven weeks.
Christina Speidel was born Dec. 25, 1882 in Beresina, South Russia, the daughter of Christian and Katherina Goehner Speidel. At an early age, she came with her parents to the U. S., when they settled at Ashley. They moved to a farm 12 miles southeast of Gackle in Logan County where her parents homesteaded. She grew to womanhood in the community and was married to Karl Schlecht in 1901.
They began farming 13 miles south of Gackle. Following the death of her husband in 1936, she continued to live on the farm with her children until the fall of 1941 when she moved into Gackle. In 1959, she made her home at the Manor St. Joseph in Edgeley until she entered Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown.
Preceding her in death, her husband Karl and the following children: Mrs. Fred (Ottilia) Rudolph, Mrs. Arthur (Alma) Janke. In infancy...Gothilf & Gotlieb.
Surviving are nine children, Christ and Hilbert Schlecht and Mrs. Stanley Weir (Elsie), Everett, Wash.; Arthur Schlecht, Battleground, Wash.; Mrs. Rudolph (Anna) Wolf, Mathias, Enderlin; Mrs. Jacob E. (Katie) Janke, Ernest Schlecht, Mrs. Eddie H. (Emma) Hehn, Gackle; 39 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters. Henry Speidel, McLaughlin, S. D.; Gottlieb Speidel, Wishek; Edward Speidel, Tacoma, Wash.; Emanuel Speidel, Jamestown; Mrs. Jacob Schadler, Dryden, Wash.; Mrs. Ben Schadler, Cashmere, Wash.; Mrs. LeRoy Swanson, Litchfield, Minn.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Congregation Church in Gackle with Rev. David Blaskowsky, pastor of the Church of God in Gackle officiating. Burial will be in the rural Friedenstahl Cemetery 13 miles South of Gackle.

Ottilie Rudolph, 44, resident of the Fredonia, ND community died October 1, 1947 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota during surgery to remove a tumor from inside her head that has been a cause for her failing health for several years.
She was born May 6, 1903 in Logan County North Dakota to Karl and Christine Schlecht nee Speidel. She attended their local country school and helped her parents with the normal farm chores.
On December 5, 1919 she and Fred Rudolph were married in the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Fredonia, North Dakota.
They made their home on a farm Northwest of Fredonia where they farmed and raised the children.
She is survived by five living children: Alvina (Mrs. Ray Burkle), Annetta (Mrs. Roland Burkle), Darwin, Orion and Arnie, all of Fredonia, North Dakota. Two still born children preceded her in death.
Five brothers: Christian, Ernest, Mathias, Art & Hilbert.
Five sisters: Katherina (Mrs. Jacob Janke), Anna (Mrs. Rudolph Wolf), Alma (Mrs. Arthur Janke), Elsie (Mrs. Stanley Weir) & Emma (Mrs. Eddie Hehn.
She was preceded in death by her father Karl and two still born brothers Gotthilf & Gottlieb.
The funeral services at the Congregational Church in Gackle, N.D., and burial to follow at the Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle, N.D.

OBITUARY
Ben Bentz, 80, of Lodi, died on Jan. 27 in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born May 8, 1917 in McIntosh County, N.D., where he was raised. He married Helen Isaak on June 1, 1947 in Salem, Ore., and the couple resided there until 1954 when they moved to Galt and finally to Lodi in 1985. He was employed by Campbell Soup Co. in Sacramento for 21 years until retirement in 1977. Mr. Bentz served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Grace Community Fellowship Church in Woodbridge. He enjoyed golfing in earlier years. He is survived by his wife, Helen Bentz of Lodi; one daughter, Nita Bennett of Lodi; one son, Ken Bentz of Oregon; two brothers, Chris Bentz of Montana and Manuel Bentz of Nevada; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John Bentz, Jr., and Jack Bentz. A church service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Community Church, 1022 E. August St., Woodbridge, with Pastor Ken Raphael officiating. Committal will be at Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Lodi Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church for John Neuharth, 82. The Rev. D.J. Rogers and the Rev. Truman Bauer will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Neuharth died Monday afternoon at Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1879. in Menno, son
of Carolyn and Fred Neuharth. He married Eva Broeckel at Emery in 1902. They farmed at Emery,
Menno, Alpena and Wessington Srings until 1909 when he entered he grain business at Alpena and Wessington Springs. He retired in 1950.
Survivors include three sons, Alvin, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Harold and Helmuth, Wessington Springs; one brother, Jake. Alpena; three sisters, Carrie Bittner, Christina Neuharth and Helena Schorzmann, all of Alpena. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, June 16, 1949.

Shirley Reiser 75 of McClusky died Thursday August 22, 2013 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake, ND.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Committal Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 27 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Shirley was born on January 27, 1938 on the family farm northwest of McClusky. She was the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Wentz) Neff. She grew up there and attended the McClusky High School. Shirley married Arlie Reiser on September 14, 1958 in Bismarck. They lived on a farm south of McClusky for several years before moving into town. They had four children, Todd, twins Leslie and Lori, and Robert Charles who was born premature and died shortly after birth. Shirley was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, baking and sewing. Her hobbies included fishing, reading and enjoying her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her two sons, Todd of Underwood and Leslie of Mandan; daughter, Lori Kastrow of Mandan; four grandchildren, Billie Jean Kastrow, Amanda Jean Kastrow, Zackery Charles Reiser and Jennifer Rose Reiser; one great-granddaughter, Hailey Richter; three brothers and their wives, Clifford and Marvel Neff of McClusky, Jerry and Loretta Neff of Turtle Lake, Roger "Max" and Lorraine Neff of Bismarck.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arlie on May 17, 2009 and a son, Robert Charles.
