She attended school in Java through 11th grade and graduated from Selby High School in 1950. Arelene worked as a waitress, variety store clerk, Super Products Secretary and clerk of a Nutrition Site. She also clerked auction sales with her husband for the Bowdle State Bank.
On March 21, 1954, Arelene married Mahlon H. Gross in the Episcopalian Church in Brookings, SD.
Arelene was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Bowdle where she taught Sunday School for many years. She served on the administration board as Secretary and Trustee and was a member of the Women’s Society for many years, holding many offices through the years. Arelene was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen which she has enjoyed thoroughly through kind and loving members, staff and devoted pastors.
Some of the most precious people in her life were her special grandson, who brought much joy into her life, her helpful and caring sons and special care giver Tom. She loved reading Christian books (many on her Kindle Fire), her Bible and having her daily devotions. Arelene was a great Minnesota Twins fan, she loved professional ice skating, flowers, gardening and decorating for the holidays. She loved giving out Dove chocolates to friends and anyone who helped her or just plain needed a smile or uplifting. She cherished her collection of angel figurines. She enjoyed cooking, baking and doing crossword puzzles.
Grateful for having shared Arelene’s life are her sons; Tim (Linda) Gross and Tom Gross, one grandson, one sister in law, Doris Campbell, brother-in-law, Nelvin Roebuck, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her husband Mahlon Gross, parents, John W and Magdalena (Lena) Schlepp, three sisters, Lilian (Ellsworth) Randall, Delores (Alvin) Bauer, Mary Lou Roebuck and one brother Verton (Wally) Schlepp.

Adolph Sayler, 81, Sacramento, CA resident since 1929, died Thursday, April 11, 1985 in a Sacramento hospital after a few months of illness. Funeral services were held April 13, 1 p.m. in the chapel of Sacramento Memorial Lawn Mortuary and Cemetery with Pastor Wally Lundeen of St. Luke's Lutheran Church officiating. His son, Gordon, gave the eulogy.
Adolph was born August 30, 1903 near Wishek the son of John Sayler and Magdalena (Bier) Sayler. He married Amelia Rath in 1928 in Zeeland. They moved to the Sacramento area in 1929 where he attended Barber College. He worked for W.C. McPheeters as Post barber, at Mather Air Field, Mills California, for Mr. Ross at 28th and Broadway in Sacramento (which later became Sayler's Barber Shop). After selling his business in 1959 he continued to work in various barber shops until his retirement in 1974.
He was a member of St. Lukes American Lutheran Church for 51 years. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters, Loyal Order of the Moose and the International Order of the Eagles, Son's of Retirement Inc., Country Club Branch No. 33, and the Sacramento Polka Booster Club.
He is survived by his wife, Amelia, two sons, Gordon, Bellevue, WA; Norman, Norden, CA; two brothers, Edward of Wishek, Edwin of Lehr; six sisters, Lydia Knoll and Katherine Golz of Ashley, Bertha Knoll of Venturia, Paulina Ketterling and Martha Ketterling of Wishek, Freida Deyle of Billings, MT and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother Reinhold of Lodi, CA.

Amelia Sayler passed away on April 17, 2007 at the Tahoe Extended Care Center in Truckee, Calif. She was 99½ and one of the oldest Truckee residents.
Amelia was born Dec. 4, 1907 in Wishek, to George and Dorthea Rath.
She married Adolph Sayler on Nov. 9, 1928, and they moved to Sacramento, Calif., in 1929. Adolph was a barber in Sacramento for his entire career, and passed away in 1985. Amelia (known as Millie) was a professional seamstress who worked out of her home and raised two sons.
Gordon Sayler and his wife, Trudy, live in Issaquah, Wash., and Norman Sayler lives at Donner Summit in California. There are four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Millie was also blessed with many nieces and nephews.
After Millie's husband passed away in 1985, She moved up to Donner Ski Ranch to be near Norm and his family and became well known for skiing the first time at 80 years of age. Millie flew to Seattle to visit her son, Gordon, and family at 98 years of age. She had a great sense of humor, loved her grandchildren, and will be missed by all family members and the many friends she made wherever she lived. She was a long time member of St Luke's Lutheran Church, having become a member in 1934.
Millie had three sisters and five brothers. All are deceased but one sister, Eva Ketterling, who lives in Wishek.
A memorial service to celebrate Millie's long life was held April 28 at Sacramento Memorial Lawn Garden in Sacramento, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials, in memory of Millie Sayler, be sent to Tahoe Extended Care Center, PO Box 759, Truckee, CA 96160.

ZANESVILLE: Lloyd N. "Whitey" Barnes joined his wife of 62 years, Marjorie on December 27, 2014 at his residence.
Lloyd was born June 5, 1922 in Nevis, MN and was the son of the late Richard and Victoria Rivitts Barnes. He graduated from Bay View High School in Milwaukee, WI in 1940 and shortly after moved to Zanesville. He was employed by Line Material, McGraw Edison (Cooper) from 1940 until 1988. Lloyd worked on the production floor, Industrial Engineering and Middle Management.Lloyd entered the military in 1942, joined the Reserves in 1946 and retired in 1964 as a Lt. Col. He served overseas for about 22 months as a P-38 fighter pilot in the Air Force. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific medal with seven battle stars, the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross plus many others. After retiring, he volunteered to serve as a Liaison Officer for the Air Force Academy. At the end of 25 years he again retired. For this service he was awarded the first Silver Falcon as the Outstanding Liaison Office for Lifetime Achievement from the Air Force Academy.Lloyd was an active member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served in various capacities in the Sunday School and Church Council for over 40 years, and served 6 years as president of the congregation.Lloyd attended night classes at O.U.Z. while working and raising a family. During his lifetime he was active in several organizations. He served as president of the Z.H.S. Band Boosters and belonged to the Zanesville Management Club. He served as an advisor to the Machine Trades program at the Vocational School on Richards Road. He was a tutor with the Literacy Council, Project MORE reading mentor at Roseville Elementary School, and a mentor at West Muskingum High School. He also was a volunteer at Muskingum Behavioral Health. He graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces out of Washington D.C, and the Command and Staff College of the U.S.A.F. Air Force. Along the way he became a Certified Senior Engineering Technician. Lloyd was inducted into the Muskingum County Veterans Hall of Fame in 2002 and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1058. He was a member of the Friends of the Library, the Muskingum County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, the Air Force Association and a regular blood donor, a volunteer at Christ Table and the local animal shelter. Lloyd was an usher at Secrest Auditorium, on the Board of Trustees for the Pioneer and Historical Society. He received the 2012 Military Hometown Hero Award. In February, 2014, Lloyd received a Resolution on the State Senate floor from Senator Troy Balderson, recognizing Lloyd's lifetime military and community service.
In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Schmid Barnes who died September 24, 2008; his step-mother, Erna; and a half-brother, Curtis.
Calling hours will be Monday December 29, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m.at Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave. Funeral services will be held Tuesday December 30, 2014 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Matzke officiating, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park, with full military honors.

Lenora Raeshke, age 94 of Carson, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo, ND.
Lenora Violet Raeshke, age 94 of Carson, ND passed from this life on December 29, 2014 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley at Villa Maria Nursing home in Fargo, ND. She was surrounded by her daughter and some of her Church family as they celebrated her life.
Lenora was born in Carson, ND, on September 19, 1920, the first of 3 children born to August and Lydia (Horst) Huber.
Lenora was married to Arthur Raeshke on June 25, 1944, they had one daughter Cyndy.
Lenora and Art worked side by side in the Rexall Drug Store in Carson, ND until Art retired. She always attended the Pharmaceutical Conventions with Art and even continued to attend after his death.
She was very active in many of the City of Carson’s organizations while she and Art were in the Drug Store.
Lenora was a member of the Carson Community Homemakers Club and she worked with the Senior Citizen meals program in Carson for many years.
Up until the last 8 years Lenora & Art had a garden every year from which Lenora spent many hours canning or they enjoyed giving away the produce to friends & family.
Lenora was a member of the Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Carson.
Over the years Lenora had been a Sunday School teacher, active in the Church Choir, Church Missionary Society and sent out church bulletins with hand written notes.
Lenora attended school at Thane, Carson and NDSCS, Wahpeton, ND.
In June 2011, Lenora moved from her home in Carson, ND to reside at Dakota Hills Housing in Elgin, ND. She resided there until her move to Villa Maria in Fargo on April 10, 2014.
Lenora is survived by her daughter Cyndy; a brother, a sister-in-law Ethel,a niece Yvonne, three nephews.
Lenora was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, parents August and Lydia (Horst) Huber, brother, Walter Huber and her favorite Uncle Edwin Horst.
A service and burial will be held at a later date.

Orlene Croissant, 58, of rural Greeley, died Friday, Sept. 17, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver.
She was born June 6, 1924, at Loveland to Henry and Mollie (Hettinger) Bath.
On Dec. 12, 1943, she was married to Elmer Croissant in Arizona.
The Croissants moved to Greeley from Arizona in 1944. Mrs. Croissant had been employed by Dolly Madison Thrift Store for the past 14 years.
Survivors are her husband, Elmer of Greeley; three daughters, Mrs. Vaundeen Marsh of Fort Collins, Mrs. Diana Lynn Brown of Broomfield and Gayle Ann Croissant of Boulder; a son, Melvin Bruce Croissant of Fort Collins; her mother, Mollie Bath of Loveland; two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Norma) Mohrlang of Pueblo and Mrs. Kenneth (Donna) Jurgens of Kersey; two brothers, Harry and Wayne Bath, both of Loveland; and nine grandchildren. Her father and two sisters are deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Congregational Church. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Macy Allnutt Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial gifts may be given to St. Paul’s Congregational Church Building Fund.

Elmer H. Croissant, 69, Greeley, died Sunday, Sept. 16, at North Colorado Medical Center.
He was born May 18, 1921, to Henry W. and Rose (Vollmer) Croissant in Buckingham.
On Dec. 12, 1943, he married Orlene Bath in Globe, Ariz. She died Sept 17, 1982
Mr. Croissant attended schools in Buckingham. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a drill instructor for recruits. He farmed in the Greeley and La Salle areas for 20 years and at the same time was a barber. He had also been a John Deere salesman and had driven a milk truck for Carnation. He then worked for Greeley-Evans School District 6 for 10 years. He retired in 1987.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Congregational Church and played on the Greeley Senior baseball team, which won the state championship in 1990.
Survivors are three daughters, Vaundeen Marsh of Fort Collins, Diana Brown of Canon City and Gayle Croissant of Lafayette; a son, M. Bruce of Fort Collins; two sisters, Gladys Sitzman of Greeley and Elsie Kerbs of Vernon; two brothers, Milton “Buddy” of Golden and Allen of Hygiene; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Congregational Church. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Congregational Church building fund in care of Macy Chapel.

Funeral services for Minnie E. Zidick, Minot, and formerly of New Leipzig, will be Thursday, Feb. 1 at 1 PM at the United Congregational Church in New Leipzig. Pastor John Amundson will officiate and interment will be in the Congregational Cemetery.
Mrs. Zidick passed away Monday morning, Jan 29. at her home in Minot, ND.
Minnie Eugenia Werre was born Oct. 4, 1920 at New Leipzig, ND to Albert and Christina (Hoffman) Werre. She grew up there and graduated from New Leipzig High School, later attending Dickinson Normal School where she received her teacher’s certificate.
She taught rural schools for a time and in the early 1940’s moved to Detroit, MI where she worked in the investigating department of a motor company. There she met and was married to Andy Zidick. In the late 1940’s they returned to New Leipzig and began operating their electrical contracting business. After retiring, they moved to Minot for a time. Mr. Zidick passed away in May of 1992 and Minnie returned to New Leipzig to make her home, spending winters in Florida. She returned to Minot in 2002 to be near family.
Surviving are her brother: Almore A. (Janet) Werre of Falmouth, MA and Nokomis, FL, sister; Esther (Kenneth) Olson, Minot, sisters in law; Gretta Werre, Bismarck and Frances Werre, Wahpeton, ND, and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, 4 sisters, Emma and Hertha and two in infancy, 2 brothers, Edward and Richard Werre.

Margaret "Ruth" Kloubec, age 94, longtime resident of West Chicago, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015. She was born on July 18, 1920, in Johnson County, Iowa to James and Theo Bowersox. Ruth was united in marriage on April 7, 1940, to Eugene Kloubec. She worked for many years as a secretary at West Chicago Community High School retiring in 1981. Ruth is survived by her children, Dennis (Barbie) Kloubec of Round Rock, TX, Debbie (Jerry) Hansberger of Barrington, IL, Carol (Whitey) Harrington of Western Springs, IL, and Kevin (Karen) Kloubec of Geneva, IL; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Whiting; sister-in-law, Arlene Reyman; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann (John) Hartmann; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ida Schiermeister, 94, formerly of Hazelton, died Jan. 3, 2010, in the Strasburg Care Center. Memorial services have been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hazelton, with the Rev. Eugene Roecker officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in Gayton Gimbel Lutheran Cemetery.
Ida was born May 12, 1915, on a farm near Wishek, the daughter of Nicholas and Pauline (Bridling) Humann. She attended country school. Ida married William “Willie” Schiermeister on Feb. 14, 1935, at Ida’s Homestead, nine miles northwest of Wishek. They farmed southwest of Hazelton until retiring in 1991, at which time they moved into Hazelton. Willie died on May 22, 2001.
Ida continued to live in Hazelton until entering the Baptist Home for one year and then the Strasburg Care Center on Feb. 14, 2007. Ida enjoyed playing cards, cooking, quilting and fishing.
Grateful to have shared her life are one son, Roger Schiermeister, Hazelton; three daughters and one son-in-law, Yvonne Maier, Menoken, Iva Burchett, Strasburg, and Pam and Dave Stramer, Hazelton; eight grandchildren, Valerie (Durwin) Power, Wanda Maier, LeAnn (Kim) Kakela, Gina Graf, Danielle (Robert) Scharnowske, Clare (Pete) Bauman, Wyatt (Dani) Stramer and Cody (Shelley) Stramer; 11 great-grandchildren, DJ (Dawn) Power, Casey Power, Channing (Kelly) Azure, Karle and Kelse Kakela, Lane and Brady Bauman, Jager and Ryder Stramer and Hope and Faith Stramer; one great-great-grandchild, Jeven; and one sister, Alma Ritter, Williston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2001, and 10 brothers and sisters.
