Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the Federated Church in Sutton, NE with Rev. Mary Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 30, 2015, from 1–8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family. She was born on a farm north of Sutton to Alfred and Frieda (Engelhardt) Griess on October 23, 1923. She attended Sutton High School and graduated in 1940. After high school she attended Normal Teacher Training in Kearney, and taught in several area one-room schools. During World War II she worked at the Navy Ammunition Depot near Hastings, NE as an office clerk. After the War she met and married Rolland Johnson from Harvard, a veteran and farmer. They were married on March 15, 1950 in Saronville during a blizzard. They were blessed with three daughters, Deborah, Janis and Becky. Rolland preceded her in death on December 11, 1998. Lorene was a dedicated homemaker and had many talents. She loved to paint, knit, and practice various other needlecrafts. She also started a cake baking and decorating business from her home and provided cakes for many friends’ and relatives’ weddings, graduations, and special occasions. She also loved gardening and flowers and at the age of 57 opened a floral shop in Sutton with her daughter Deb called Plant Potpourri. They owned the floral shop until 1990. She was an active member of the Saronville Methodist Women’s Fellowship and later the Sutton Federated Church Women’s Circle. She was a 4-H club leader for many years, a member the Better Homes and Gardens Extension Club, and the Sutton American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters and her husband Rolland. Survivors include daughters Deb and husband Bob Unterseher of Sutton, Jan and husband John McKenzie of Sutton, and Becky and husband Chip Cary of Goodyear, AZ. In addition, she is survived by four grandsons: Andy and wife Becky Unterseher of Lincoln, Nolan Unterseher of Sutton, Brady Unterseher of Sutton, Nathan and wife Jan Jaree McKenzie of Sutton, and one step-granddaughter Jenny and husband Casey Diers of River Forest, Ill; 6 great-grandchildren: Isaiah and Claire Unterseher, Mason McKenzie and Jentry Stenger, Adelynn Unterseher and Fiona Diers. She also was an “adopted” OMAH (grandma) to Steffie Bosman from Breda in the Netherlands, an exchange student who stayed with the McKenzie’s in 2001-2002, who said she was “a true grandma for me while staying in Sutton.” Her sister, Helen Nuss of Minnesota and brother, Jerry Griess of Indiana also survive her, and many other relatives and friends. | Griess, Lorene Esther (I142490)

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 30 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Prairie, with Rev. Theresa Brezenski officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, with military honors by The American Legion, Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Zion Lutheran Church, or the donor's choice. Julius G. Gehring was born April 13, 1920, in Platte County, Nebraska, to Henry and Tena (Hassebrook) Gehring. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Prairie, where he was a lifelong member, and served on the church council. He attended District #72 grade school. He began farming at an early age. In 1942, Julius entered the United States Army Air Corp during World War II and was stationed in a number of states as well as many foreign countries during the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On February 16, 1947, Julius was united in marriage to Lorraine Fittje at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple returned to the farm which Julius loved and continued living there until 1979 when they moved into Columbus. Julius retired from farming in 2006. He was a life member of the American Legion Hartman Post 84. DOBBIN~ Reliance, SD; Died: Sunday, July 2, 2006, Sioux Falls, SD; Age: 79 years, 17 days Harold Quincy Dobbin, son of Gerald and Laura (Foote) Dobbin, was born June 15, 1927 in Gregory, SD. Following his father's death in 1935, he moved with his family to a ranch near Iona, SD. Harold grew up there and received his education in country school. He then worked on farms in the area. Harold entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on February 9, 1946 at Fort Snelling, MN. He served in the Philippines during World War II. Harold was honorably discharged on April 6, 1947 at Camp Beale, CA. He returned to Iona and began work as a maintainer operator for Lyman County. Harold was united in marriage with Coreen Tarr in Lake Andes, SD on December 29, 1952. The couple made their home on a ranch near Reliance, SD. Harold ranched and continued work with Lyman County before retiring after 47 years of service with the county. Harold cherished his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Coreen Dobbin, Sioux Falls, SD; five children, Beverly Dobbin-Devaney, Sioux Falls, SD, Dave Dobbin, Box Elder, SD, Lorin Dobbin, Reliance, SD, Dorinda Steele and her husband, Terry, Brandon, SD, Ellen Sluzar and her husband, Gary, West Monroe, NY; eight grandchildren, Kathryn Devaney, Rebecca Devaney, Andrew Devaney, Daniel Devaney, Philip Dobbin, Kevin Steele, Julie Steele, Olivia Sluzar; three sisters, Dorothy Carpenter, New Hope, MN, Ruth Whiting and her husband, Harry, Winner, SD, Elsie Todd and her husband, Bob, Wentworth, SD; a brother, Ralph Schuiling and his wife, Marlene, Iona, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes, North Dakota. Burial will be at Oakes View Cemetery in Oakes, North Dakota. Dorothy Anhorn Lindseth was born November 10, 1917 in Herrick, South Dakota, to Reinhold and Bertha (Frank) Anhorn. Dorothy moved with her family to North Dakota when she was eight years old. She graduated from Oakes High School in 1937. Dorothy was united in marriage to Elmer Lindseth on February 26, 1938 in Redfield, South Dakota. They made their home on the Lindseth farm 7 miles east of Oakes. Dorothy worked for over 25 years at Terri-Lee Fashions in Oakes. She was very active in Nazareth Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Nazareth WELCA Women’s Group. Dorothy was also a member of the neighborhood homemaker’s club. Dorothy possessed many talents. Among them was her ability to grow beautiful flowers. She took great pride in their home and yard and provided many of her own flowers for several years for the altar at Nazareth Lutheran. She was an excellent cook and candy maker, providing many holiday treats for her family and grandkids. Dorothy had an extremely strong work ethic and her faith in God and family were her top priorities. Dorothy died Monday, June 29 at Oakes Good Samaritan Center in Oakes. She was 97 years old. Survivors include a son, Darrell, Hays; a brother, Elmer Weigel, Hays; three grandchildren, Melinda Wells and husband, Steve, Russell, Scott Keberlein, Kansas City, Mo., and Kristian Keberlein and wife, Jodi, Mission; and five great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Marietta of the home; three sons, Larry of South Lake, Texas, Dennis of Hays and David of El Toro, Calif.; a daughter, Sister Mary Riedel of Hays; a brother, Arthur of Hays; a sister, Melinda Higby of Phillipsburg; and four grandchildren.
