From the Dyersville (IA) Commerical - Frank Kruse Died Here On Thursday - Death Came After Brief Illness of Few Days; Buried Monday
Death last Thursday climaxed an illness of only a few days and claimed the life of Mr. Frank Kruse of West Dyersville, well known local citizen and former resident of Petersburg. Mr. Kruse, who was approximately 52 years of age, had been in failing health for several years, but was seriously ill for only a few days and the news of his death came with a startling sadness to his many friends here and at Petersburg and cast a pall of sorrow over the entire community.
Mr. Kruse was born on a farm at Petersburg on October 3, 1881, and lived there his entire life until about twelve years ago when he quit farming and moved to Dyersville, since which time he had resided continuously in this city.
Mr. Kruse's early education was received in the rural schools and the SS Peter and Paul school at Petersburg. His marriage to Miss Frances Engelken, his sorrowing wife who remains with seven children to survive him, occurred on Jan. 15, 1913, in SS Peter and Paul church at Petersburg.
Surviving children are as follows: Leander, Lawrence, Gilbert, Virginia, Mildred, Delores and Donald, all at home. Two brothers, Henry Kruse and Herman Kruse, both of Petersburg, also survive.
Deceased was widely known and had a wide circle of friends to whom his passing will mean a distict loss. Kindness was the dominating character in the life of Mr. Kruse and he never failed to make friends of all with whom he came in contact. His chief interest in life centered in his home and he was a devoted husband and father whose loss can never be repaired. In his religious affiliation he was a devout member of the Roman Catholic church all his life and adhered strictly to its teachings. The exemplary life he led is reflected in the lives of his children. He had the comfort of the last rites of his Holy Religion before he died. To the immediate members of the Kruse family we join in extending heartfelt sympathy in this their hour of sorrow.
Funeral services were held on Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the family home to St. Francis church, where Rev. J.B. Herbers, pastor, sang the Requiem high mass for the repose of his soul. Interment followed in the St. Francis cemetery. The funeral cortege was very large, many from Petersburg also attending. Pallbearers were Messrs. H.C. Leopold, Frank Holscher, Ed Cunningham, Albert Drexler, Charles Goerdt and A.F. Rahe.
Mr. Kruse's father preceded him in death about eleven months ago.

Joyce Kelly, loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother peacefully passed away surrounded by family. After a number of short hospital stays between May - August, Joyce succumbed to cancer on Saturday, August 7, 2010. Joyce and husband John celebrated their fifty-second wedding anniversary on June 28, 2010 and were blessed with two much loved children Anita (Chris) Bowman and Robert (Patricia) Kelly. Joyce's pride and joy were her grandchildren Anissa Claire and Taylin Shae Kelly who she visited often and cherished above all else. She has so many family and friends whose visits, prayers and cards wishing her well were gratefully appreciated by her and her children. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Rebecca and Emil Lehr. She is survived by her loving siblings, sister Gladys (Bill) Fletcher and brothers Clarence (Donna) Lehr and Ron (Diane) Lehr, and their families.
Over the years Joyce maintained contact with all her relatives as best as possible and she and John have many happy memories of time spent with each of them. Joyce was raised and educated in the Cardston, Alberta area and met her husband, John while studying at the University of Oklahoma. John, Joyce and Anita returned to Canada in 1960 to reside in Calgary, where Joyce lived for the rest of her life. Following many years of employment at the University of Calgary as Executive Assistant to the Deans of the Faculties of Social Welfare and Continuing Education Joyce retired to an active life. She was very involved assisting numerous ministries at Corpus Christie Catholic Parish including her much valued participation in the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Choir. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, ski, golf, hike, travel and making even more friends through her extensive participation in the Calgary Square Dancing community. Joyce and John started their square dancing with the Gadabouts Square Dance Club around 1992 which later joined with the Revellers and changed their name to the Prairie Winds. She travelled with John and friends to many National Conventions and enjoyed two cruises of the Mediterranean with square dance friends.
Joyce and John and family have so many people to thank.... Of particular mention are the many doctors, nurses and care-givers involved with the Alberta Health Care Services, Emergency Medical Services Foothills Medical Center (Intensive Care Unit and three general wards) and Sheldon Chumir Hospital whose phenomenal care and professionalism were outstanding and did everything possible to treat Joyce's condition. Together they ensured maximum comfort and most importantly, some valuable time at home where, under the vigilant care of the Calgary South Health Care personnel, she enjoyed many weeks with family and friends. The family is forever grateful to all of her caregivers and cannot speak highly enough of the support and treatments provided by the Alberta Health Care System during her illness.
Funeral Mass celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (404 Northmount Drive N.W.) on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with The Rev. Raul Ranola, Presider. A private Graveside Service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
