Thomas Fischer was the original Innkeeper of the Adler (now called LoewenThor at www.loewenthor.de). According to church records, Thomas Fischer at the age of 60, opened the Inn named "zum Adler" in 1700. He operated the Inn until his death in 1719 (79 years and 19 days old at the time of death). Thomas Fischer's initials "TF 1702" are carved in one of the crossbeams found in the bar area of the LoewenThor. Also carved in the wooden ceiling crossbeams are names and/or initials and dates of previous owners. The Inn was the first overnight stop for the travelers (Bishofs, Royalty, Merchants, Traders and Court Officials) for the horse drawn coach that went on the old commercial/trade route between Speyer and Augsburg.
