Leroy A. Claus, age 51, of Lewisville, Ohio, passed away December 5, 1944. He was born March 6, 1893, a son of the late Fred and Caroline Haffner Claus.
He was confirmed at the Evangelical and Reformed Church on December 6, 1906.
On January 1, 1920, he was united in marriage with Anna Kilburn, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kilburn.
Mr. Claus leaves to mourn his sad departure, his wife, two sons and one daughter; T/Sergeant Bernard L. Claus of Geneva, Nebraska, Pfc. Floyd L. Claus, somewhere in France, and Elvira of the home.
The following brothers and sisters also survive: Benjamin Claus of Hornick, Iowa; Gilbert Claus, of Lewisville of Smithland, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Christman, of Lewisville, Route 2, and Mrs. Clara Christman, of Lewisville, Route 2.
Two brothers preceded him in death several years ago.
He also leaves several nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.
Mr. Claus was an employee of the R. J. Haren Lumber Company of Woodsfield, Ohio at the time of his death. He always met his friends with a kind word and a smile which he carried to his grave.

Lydia Louise Claus, wife of Walter Charles Claus, died Sunday, March 9, 1919,age 21 years, 5 months and 12 days, after an illness of a few days of the influenza. She bore her sickness and affliction without murmur or complaint and sweetly fell asleep to wake in her blest home. She was born September 25, 1897, the daughter of Gustav F. Kilburn and Mary Kahrig. On April 9, 1911, she was confirmed at the St. John’s Evangelical Church. She was a member of the Sunday School all the days of her life. On October 31, 1916, she was united in marriage to Walter C. Claus. Short was the duration of the happy union. Like a thief of the night the news came from the clear sky of her death. She leaves to mourn her death, husband, Walter C. Claus; one son, Wilbert Walter Claus, aged two years;, one daughter, Grace Lydia Claus, aged 11 hours; father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Kilburn; 2 sisters, Estella Kilburn and Sylvia Kilburn, and 2 brothers, Freeman Kilburn and William Kilburn, besides the many friends who love her. She will be missed by us and all who knew her because she was so kind and pleasant to everyone and the work that she has done will bring her memory back to us. She was laid to rest in St. John’s Middle Church cemetery, near Lewisville, Ohio with the Reverend Meisenheimer officiating.

Freeman Sylvester Christman, 69, of Monroefield died on Wednesday morning, November 27, 1968 at 6:00 a.m. at the Martins Ferry Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1899 in Summit Township, near Lewisville, a son of the late Charles and Laura Baker Christman.
In 1922 he was married to Estella Rosanna Kilburn who survives. Also surviving are three children, Eldon Christman, of Lewisville, Rural Route 1; Mrs. William (Ruth) Seebach, of Lewisville, Rural Route 1; and Richard Christman, of Canton, Ohio; one brother, Harvey Christman, of Woodsfield, and an uncle, Fred Christman, of Barnesville, Ohio. There are eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Christman was a retired lumber dealer and farmer. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ of Lewisville.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning, November 30th at ten o’clock in the Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Wilmer Grunwald officiating. Burial was in Middle Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Estella R. Kilburn Christman, 76, of Lewisville died Sunday night December 5, 1976, in Marietta Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was born October 5, 1900, in Monroe County, Ohio, a daughter of the late August and Mary Kahrig Kilburn.
Mrs. Christman was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ at Lewisville.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William (Ruth) Seebach, of Lewisville; two sons, Eldon Christman, of Lewisville, Route 1, and Richard Christman of Columbus; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Freeman Kilburn, of Lewisville, Route 1, and William Kilburn, of Cambridge and one sister, Mrs. Sylvia Armstrong, of Alliance.
Her husband, Freeman preceded her in death November 27, 1968.
Services were held Wednesday afternoon at one o’clock in the Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Nippert, of the Trinity United Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in Middle Church Cemetery.

Reuben Winckler, 79, Glen Ullin, died Aug. 24, 1999, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at Evangelical Congregational Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in Glen Ullin Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Reuben was born April 10, 1920, near Bluegrass, the son of John and Katherine (Nagel) Winckler. He was raised and educated in the Bluegrass area. He married Helen Scheck, Oct. 4, 1942, at Glueckstahl Church, north of Glen Ullin. They lived mostly in Bismarck, and farmed for 31 years in the Bluegrass area. Reuben also held several other jobs such as ring sales and working construction. They retired from farming in 1979 and in 1996 they moved to Glen Ullin, where they have resided since.
He was a member of Evangelical Congregational Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Douglas, Tempe, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Wendy Steele, Phoenix; two great-granddaughters, Rebecca and Amanda; four sisters, Hilda Peltz and Edna Wetzel, both of Glen Ullin, Gertrude Unruh, Missoula, Mont., and Doris Voegele, Tacoma, Wash.; and three brothers, Albert and Aaron, both of New Salem, and Garmon, Mandan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Erna; and one brother, Edwin.

Funeral services are scheduled for Michael Hoffman on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Union Congregational Church in Gregory with Pastor Tim Voigt officiating. Music was provided by Kati Champlin, soloist, accompanied by DeNalda Fortuna, organist.
The eulogy was given by Steve Matthes, and Lizzy Klein Bolander and Monica Pochop were in charge of registration. Desiree and Danielle Nelson and Melissa Berndt were flower attendants.
Casket bearers were Jeff Barber, Richard Hoffman, Kenneth Rotter, Don Spreckels, Gary Travnicek and Milo Klein, Jr.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Gregory. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Michael Scott Hoffman was born in Gregory on May 16, 1957 to Raymond and Frances (Kappelman) Hoffman. He grew up on the family farm south of Dallas with his two brothers Tim and Rodney. He attended Gregory Schools and graduated from Gregory High School in 1975. Mike enjoyed his childhood on the farm and it formed his enjoyment of farming and cattle. Mike worked on the family farm and in 1979 married Lisa Bachman. Two children were born into that marriage, Brooke and Michael Jr. Mike and Lisa were later divorced.
Mike met Melanie Hanson and later united in holy matrimony on September 14, 2002. Melanie had three children, Derek, Danielle and Desiree Nelson. On that day, two families joined as one, and Mike and Melanie made their home north of Gregory and took over the family farm.
He was commonly known as "Big Mike" and he lived up to that name. He enjoyed spending time with his five kids and six grandkids. Mike really enjoyed ranching and all of his cattle, but learned to relax and enjoy his family and friends and to travel. He spent most of his time outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting (especially hog hunting), hiking and four-wheeling. Mike had a strong faith in the Lord and always had many words of wisdom. He was such a joy to be around. He had a sense of humor and was truly a great hardworking man.
Mike was preparing to work cattle on Saturday morning, September 1, 2012 when he died unexpectedly of natural causes on his farm. He was 55 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Tim and Rodney and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife Melanie of Gregory; his daughter Brooke Hoffman of Tea and his son Michael Jr. of Timber Lake; and his three
step-children: Derek Nelson of Rapid City, Danielle Goldade of Pierre, and Desiree Nelson of Pierre; his six grandchildren: Jack Gaede, Brayden Goldade, Keira Goldade, Rylee Veskrna, Bree Nelson, Violet Nelson; and by nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Reuben Herbert Faul, 89, Sawyer, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 15, 2010 in an Orange, CA hospital.
Reuben was born on January 31, 1920 on the family farm in Brillian Township of Ward County, near Sawyer, ND, to John and Louise (Vix) Faul. He was reared on the family farm and attended Haugen Johnson and Hans Christenson rural schools prior to graduating from Velva High School in 1938.
As a young man, he worked in area coal mines for his uncles A.C. and Christ Vix. In addition, he drove coal truck during the winter of 1941-42, was employed in the construction of the Glasgow, MT air force base and in the Long Beach, CA shipyards. He returned to ND in 1943 to assist his father with the operation of the family farm. Reuben had found his true calling in life and thoroughly enjoyed farming and all it entails.
Reuben was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Henke on October 23, 1949 at Sawyer. They made their home on the farm until the spring of 1964, when they built a house in Sawyer, so their children could be closer to school. He continued farming until his retirement in 1979. However, he continued to assist his family and neighbors with their farming and remained very active in the Sawyer community.
Reuben served two terms on the Brillian Township Board, with three of those years as the supervisor. In 1967, he was appointed the first Mayor of Sawyer, and was elected for an additional six more years. He had served on the Sawyer City Board for two terms, prior to serving as Mayor. He served two terms on the Sawyer School Board and was active in the Ward County Farm Bureau, serving as vice-president for two terms. He also spent 18 years on the Sawyer Elevator Board with 16 of those years as Chairman. He assisted in organizing the Sawyer Senior Citizens and held numerous positions with that organization. He was also active with the Souris Basin Transportation Board, where he served as vice-president for more than 10 years. He was a longtime member of the Sawyer Lions Club.
Reuben regularly attended and was active with the Sawyer Mennonite Brethren Church prior to its closure and then attended the Sawyer Church of the Nazarene.
His loving family includes: Wife of sixty years, Betty; Daughters, Susan (Scott) Raybourn, Santa Ana, CA, Sandra (Kevin) Sys, Sawyer; Grandchildren, Christian (Megan) Metz, Amy Metz, Deanne Metz, Thomas Metz, Kyle Sys, and Amanda Sys; Great-Grandson: Riley Metz and a Great Granddaughter due in April; Brother, Richard (Lorraine) Faul of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Reuben was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law: Luella and Louie Herr.
Funeral service: Monday, January 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Southside Church of the Nazarene, Minot.

Cyril Veston Bigelow, beloved husband of Rachel Bigelow of Taber, passed away in Lethbridge on Wednesday, July 29, 1998 at the age of 69 years.
Cyril was born January 28, 1929 and raised in Taber where he resided until the time of his passing. He met Rachel Genert and later married her on March 15, 1952 in Medicine Hat. They made their home in Taber where they raised five children.
He was predeceased by his parents Murrell & Daisy Bigelow.

Lawrence Ludwig Kahrig, 92, of Lewisville, died June 3, 1998, at the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield. He was born September 12, 1905, son of the late Phillip Kahrig and Louisa Pfalzgraf Kahrig.
He was a school bus driver, electrician, timber cutter, farmer, and Malaga Township Trustee. He was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Ella Christman Kahrig; eight sons, five daughters, 31 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother and three sisters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger; two grandchildren; four brothers, Edwin, Alfred, George, Ben; a sister, Pauline Christman.
Friends were received June 5 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services were held June 6, with Harry Summers officiating. Burial followed in the Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville.

LEWISVILLE - Ella Viola Christman Kahrig, 97, of Skin Creek Road died Tuesday (June 17, 2003) at the Monroe County Care Center in Woodsfield. She was born Feb. 23, 1906, in Lewisville, Seneca Township, to Jacob and Mary Ackerman Christman. She was an avid homemaker and gardener and enjoyed working with flowers. She was a member of Woodsfield Church of Christ.
She is survived by eight sons, Herman Kahrig of Barnesville, Lester Kahrig of Pataskala, Virgil Kahrig of Marshallville, Ohio, Rodney Kahrig of Woodsfield, Francis Kahrig of Canton, Kenneth Kahrig of Jerusalem, Lloyd Kahrig of New Pittsburgh, Ohio, and William Kahrig of Lewisville; five daughters, Martha Uppole of Lewisville, Dortha Matz of Dalton, Ohio, Vera Crock of Massillon, Leora Cruise of Oklahoma and Doris Kahrig of Rittman; 32 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Kahrig, whom she married on Oct. 9, 1924; one son, Roger Kahrig; three grandchildren; one granddaughter by marriage; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Homer, Herman, Harry and Henry "Clem" Christman; one sister, Freda Renker; and one daughter-in-law.
Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, with Minister Harry Summers officiating. Burial is in Friendship Cemetery in Lewisville. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Roger H. Kahrig, 34, of 859 Westphal Avenue, Whitehall, Columbus, died Sunday, May 4, 1975 at University Hospital in Columbus.
He was a member of the Reynoldsburg Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Kahrig, and one son, Kevin, of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kahrig, of Lewisville, Route 1, paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Kahrig, of Caldwell; eight brothers, Herman Kahrig, of Barnesville; Lester Kahrig, of Pataskala; Virgil Kahrig, of Marshallville; Rodney Kahrig, of Woodsfield Route; Kenneth Kahrig, of Jerusalem; Francis Kahrig, of Canton; Lloyd Kahrig, of Wooster, and William Kahrig, of Lewisville; five sisters, Martha Uppole, of Lewisville; Vera Crock, of Massillon; Dortha Matz, of Dalton; Leora Cruise, of Wooster, and Doris Kahrig, with U.S. Army in Germany. One son and one daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning May 6th at ten o'clock in the Schoedinger East Chapel, Columbus, with Minister Gene Armstrong officiating. Interment and graveside services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville.
Former Monroe Man Gets Transplant of Kidney April 9, 1968 at University Hospital Officials of the College of Medicine at University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio have announced the completion of seven successful kidney transplants since id-March. Among these patients is Roger H. Kahrig, 27, of 859 Westphal Ave. Columbus, Ohio.
Mr. Kahrig, a former Monroe County resident, is the son of Lawrence and Ella Kahrig of Lewisville, Ohio. He received a kidney from this brother, Lester J. Kahrig, of Pataskala, Ohio, in a 10-hour operation performed April 9, 1968 at the hospital in Columbus.
The assistant professor of surgery at the hospital in Columbus announced that Mr. Kahrig is doing well. He returned to his home for two weeks in May and is now a patient at the hospital for observation and further treatment.
