Otto Sayler, age 97, longtime Yakima Valley resident, died at Yakima Memorial Hospital, Friday, May 6, 2005, following a stroke two days earlier.
He was born April 14th, 1908, in the town of Venturia, ND, to the late Andrew and Christina Sayler. Otto attended school in Venturia, was a member of the city band and played on the city baseball team. It was there he met his wife, Ida Dockter, whom he married on June 23, 1930.
Otto spent his early adult life working for the Standard Oil Co. as a bulk agent, delivering gas and oil to the farmers and businessmen of the country.

Ida Sayler, 77, died early Thursday morning, January 29, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Union Gap, Wash.
Mrs. Sayler was born May 9, 1909, on a farm near Venturia, North Dakota to Jacob J. and Elizabeth (Schwindt) Dockter. At the age of 10 she moved with her parents to the outskirts of Venturia, where they farmed for many years. When she was 18 her parents bought a general merchandise store in Venturia, and she assisted her father in its operation.
She married Otto Sayler in Ashley, June 23, 1930. Her husband was employed by Standard Oil Co. as a bulk station agent. He was transferred to several other small towns. In 1961 the Saylers moved west of Wapato, Washington, where they farmed a 20-acre orchard until retiring in 1976 and moving to Union Gap, Washington.
She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church; the Lydia Circle of the church; and attended Christian Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband, Otto Sayler of Union Gap, Washington; two sons, Lyle Sayler of Yakima, Washington, and Lamont Sayler of Bellevue, Washington; two daughters, Mrs. Norman (Frances) Tracy and Marlys Danielson, both of Yakima, Washington; a brother, Cornelius Dockter of Chester, Connecticut; three sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Rebecca) Fuehrer of Herreid, S.D., Mrs. Alex (Mary) Zimmermann of Ashley, and Mrs. Alfred (Olga) Dobler of Venturia; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by twin sons, Douglas and Dennis Sayler, in their infancy and a brother, Calvin Dockter.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 2, in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Yakima, with burial in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Wayne Johnson, 78, of Hazen, ND formerly of Colstrip, MT died Friday, May 23, 2014 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Private family services will be held. Wayne was born on October 13, 1935 in Fairmont, MN to Victor and Blanche (Sheely) Johnson. He married Virginia Neff on October 12, 1957 in McClusky, ND. The couple had three children, Derrick, Dale and Stacy. Wayne entered the US Army on July 23, 1958 and was honorably discharged on July 22, 1960. Wayne is survived by his children, Derrick (Stephanie) of Seattle, WA, Dale (Caroleen) of Hazen, and Stacy Johnson of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Chris, Brandon, Megan, Karl, Jesse and Sara; three great-grandchildren, Joss, Breelee and Karson; and two sisters, Sharon Peterson and Thelma (Richard) Lareau. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia.

Gary Lee Engel, 71, of Mitchell, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital ER of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Reformed Church, Mitchell, with burial and military rites at Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present, at Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
Gary was born on June 16, 1943, in Avon, S.D., to Clark and Rosalind (Berndt) Engel. He graduated from Avon High School in 1961. He married Marge Thaler on Dec. 28, 1963, in Avon. He was stationed in the Philippines and Turkey in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He worked for a year as a carpet layer for Reynolds Furniture in Mitchell.
In 1970, Gary graduated from the University of South Dakota/Springfield. He worked at Mitchell Technical Institute as an accounting instructor and financial aid director from 1970 to 1980. In 1980, he worked in a Mitchell accounting business until 1982, when he began teaching business and accounting classes at Mitchell High School. He retired in 2002. He then served as a substitute teacher at MHS.
Gary and Marge traveled around the United States and overseas to see friends and relatives. He took on carpet-laying and car-detailing jobs during the summer while he was teaching full time. Gary rarely missed going to coffee and liked to work on jigsaw puzzles. He enjoyed following the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and NASCAR racing, especially Dale Earnhardt. He took pride in the success of his students and in the MHS Future Business Leaders of America chapter. Gary had a strong faith in God and was devoted to Marge and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Frank and Sunshyne Thaler; and a brother-in-law, Nick Thaler.

Norma Straub Obituary
Norma Jean Straub, 84, entered into eternal life Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Namaste’ Alzheimer Center, Colorado Springs. Norma was born April 19, 1930, in lngalls, Ks. She was the daughter of Fred and Anna (Hadley) Ausmus. She was the 4th child of 7 children. Norma attended school in Garden City and Russell Springs, Ks. She graduated from Russell Springs High School in 1948. Norma married John Straub in August of 1948. To this marriage, one daughter was born. Throughout their married life John and Norma lived in Russell Springs, Garden City, Amarillo, and Denver. Norma worked for various oil companies and was an Amway Distributer throughout her life. After retirement she enjoyed working at White Fence Farms Gift Shop. After John passed away in 2002, Norma enjoyed driving to Texas to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the love of her life. She cherished the time spent with them and always had many pictures to show her family and friends.

On May 4, 1854, Sallie married J. A. (Alex) Hargrove, in Bellville, Austin County, Texas. She and her husband had three children: Lizzie, Lottie, and Alex.
When Sallie Hargrove died (at age 22), her sister Emily and their mother Mrs. Murray were still living; but Emily Murray died shortly thereafter. Mr. Murray was from North Carolina.
Sallie's children were largely raised by a childless couple in Washington County, Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Chandler.
Alex Hargrove, the children's father, remarried in December of 1859. This was a cousin of his deceased wife, Lucretta [Lucretia?] W. Murray; however, she died after less than a year.
Late in 1860, Hargrove married a third time, to Martha Beatrice Greenwood. Then, when Texas joined other Southern states in seceding from the Union, he joined the Texas Confederate army.

Susan Pinter, age 68, of Biloxi, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015.
She was a Registered Nurse in the Biloxi area for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Les, and parents George and Mae Kastigar.
Survivors include her daughter Amy (Darren) Lickliter, grandchildren, Blair, Brandi and Ricky, greatgrandchildren Trey and Jordan and siblings Robert Kastigar, Judith Knackstedt, and twin, Sandra Kastigar.
A Graveside Service will be Wednesday, February 4, at 12:30 p.m. at the Biloxi National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
2nd Obituary of Susan 'Sue' Kastigar Pinter
Susan “Sue” (Kastigar) Pinter, 68, of Biloxi, Miss., formerly of Peru, passed away Jan. 31, 2015, in her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Susan was born in Chicago to George and Mae (Beutler) Kastigar of Peru.
She was a graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School, class of 1964, and the University of Alabama at Mobile, in 1992, with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
She was a registered nurse in the Biloxi area for over 20 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Amy (Darren) Lickliter of Biloxi; three grandchildren, Blair, Brandi and Ricky; two great-grandsons, all of Biloxi; one brother, Robert Kastigar of Chicago; two sisters, Judith Knackstedt, and Susan’s twin, Sandra Kastigar, both of Peru; one niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 7, 2004, and her parents, George and Mae Kastigar.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Biloxi National Cemetery. Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. An online guestbook may be viewed and signed at www.bradfordkeefe.com

A memorial Mass for Susan (Kastigar) Pinter, 68, originally of Peru, who died Jan. 31 in Biloxi, Miss., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph’s Church, Peru, with the Rev. Ronald Margherio, O.S.B., officiating.
Visitation with the family will be 9:30-10 a.m. Thursday in the church.
Burial was Feb. 4 at Biloxi National Cemetery, next to her late husband, Lester Pinter.

Kathy Brixey, 64, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. She was born on January 13, 1951 in Murray, Utah, the daughter of Julius and Gwen Pritzkau. She raised her family in Naples, Utah. She stayed there until 2011 and then moved to the Ogden area to be closer to her grandchildren, children, and family.
She married Michael Brixey on January 5, 1973 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Kathy belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed fulfilling many callings in her church. Later in life she enjoyed doing family history and helping others. She was Treasurer of Naples City for several years.
She really enjoyed reading, genealogy, sewing, and church. She enjoyed time with all her grandkids, instilling her values and having fun.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Michael; sons, Matthew M. (Jhean) Brixey, Killeen, Texas; Mark C. (Shelli) Brixey, Ogden; and Luke W. (Kellie) Brixey, Layton; daughter, Katie Brixey, Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren, and siblings, Kyle J. Pritzkau; Lyle C. Pritzkau, Julie Pritzkau Bleazard, Shelley Pritzkau, and Jolene Pritzkau Dotson. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Diann Bailey and Lori Waters.
Interment, Uintah City Cemetery.

She was born April 27, 1924 in Victoria to Peter J. and Catherine (Brungardt) Sander.
She married Victor F. Hoffman on Sept. 10, 1945 in Victoria.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; three sons: Alan and David, both of Hays; Jim, Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters: Judy Leiker, Donna Sander and Kim Wellbrock, all of Hays; a brother, John Sander, Hays; five sisters, Clara Miller, Victoria, Leona Russell, Wichita, Elsie Hoffman and Bernadette Arnhold, both of Hays, and Aggie Brungardt, Brookfield, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Sander, and a sister, Eleanor Ubert. Services will be at 10 am Wednesday at St Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; burial in the church cemetery. A vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cline Mortuary, Victoria. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 am Wednesday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral of The Plains Charitable Fund or Masses.

She was a retired school bus driver and secretary for the Hays USD 489 school bus department, serving 25 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays American Legion Auxiliary, Sisters of Survivorship and a volunteer at Hays Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; four sons, Ron Hoffman and wife, Karen, and Floyd Hoffman and wife, Mary Jo, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Bob Hoffman, Larkspur, Colo., and Joseph Hoffman Jr. and wife, Nicole, Broken Arrow, Okla.; a daughter, LeAnne Kroeger and husband, Dave, Hays; a brother, John Sander, Hays; two sisters, Agnes Brungardt, Broomfield, Colo., and Bernie Arnhold, Hays; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Alvin P. Sander; and four sisters, Clara "Albina" Miller, Eleanor Ubert, Amelia Hoffman and Leona Russell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd. A vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Arthur was born July 4, 1922, in York County, NE to Henry and Margaret (Griess) Ehly. He was baptized and confirmed in the Free German Reformed Salem Church where he was a lifetime member. Arthur attended country school and graduated from Sutton High School in 1941. In 1942, he was drafted into the United States Army. He was part of the Military Police Escort Guard and served in the South Pacific, the Philippine Islands and Korea for three and a half years. In 1954, he married Rose Hofmann and they celebrated their 61st anniversary on February 3, 2015. Arthur owned and operated a liquor store in Sutton for several years. Later, he was employed at the Navy Depot in Hastings, NE and Grand Island, NE and had also worked as a custodian for Sutton Public Schools.
Arthur was a member of the Sutton American Legion Argonne Post #61 in Sutton, NE.
