Rominger (1685-18741), who married 07 Feb 1708 at Winterlengen, Germany. Elisabetha died in Germany and Hans Jerg (Georg) petitioned to emigrate to America, but it is not known if he died in Germany or in Maine. David married first in Germany in c1741 to an unknown woman. They came together to America, living in present day Maine. His first wife died there c1751. They had two known children: 1. Philip Rominger (1750-1771) 2. Jacobina Rominger (???-???) The order of birth of the children is unknown. When David's will was written in 1777 Jacobina was still living in Maine (did she ever marry?). After his first wife died, David remarried to the widow Catherina Barbara Fridrich Kubler (1713-1771) in c1752. David and his son Philip came to North Carolina in 1770, and Catherina came the following year (1771) but she and her step-son Philip died a day apart in Feb 1771. Links to David's father, 2nd wife and one of his two known children are included below. Some records show that David's grave marker lists his name as Daniel Rominger, but that is probably just a mis-reading of a hard to red grave marker. | Rominger, David (I106815)

He spent most of his life around Burr Oak except 2 years he lived in Canada. He was married to Florence Rhoe on March 20, 1935. Immediate surviving relatives are his wife, Florence, the brothers and sisters, Mr and Mrs Ernest Karnatz of Guide Rock; Mr and Mrs Otto Karnatz of Crossville, Tenn., Mrs and Mrs Vern Morris, Howard Rhoe, Carroll Rhoe and Mr and Mrs Ocia Rhoe of Burr Oak; Mr and Mrs Daniel Shipman of McComb, Oklahoma.; Mr and Mrs George Spangler of Newton; Mr and Mrs Ralph Rhoe of Ogden, Utah; and his father-in-law, Oscar Rhoe of Burr Oak. He was very musical and during his ten years of illness he spent many hours picking on some musical instrument. Walter never talked much in public, but when his wife hated to leave him to go to work to make ends meet he insisted that she go to help people. In one particular case he said, "While there learn all you can about cancer. Some day we may need to know." He had the flu Nov 2nd and though doctoring steadily ever since he never could get relieved. On November 19 laboratory test showed he must be hospitalized. Walter wanted to go home, but his doctor told him, "You are worse than you or your wife realize. You will have to go for treatment" His wife was told that he had cancer in the last stages and to go the hospital at once. He was taken to Concordia where he passed away Nov 20. Walter always addressed his wife as Florence. One Sunday as he was reading the Bible he called her to his side and requested that Paul's last words be read in his obituary. "I have fought a good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge shall give me at that day. And not to me only but all that love his appearing. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Wednesday, November 20, conducted by Rev Don O'Hara. The music was furnished by Mrs Helen Belt at the piano and a quartet composed of Don Modlin, Stanley Johnson, Richard Gates and Olin Belt. For this was the arrival from France of the silent form of Charles F Karnatz, who had died in that alien if friendly land while in the service of his country and whose relatives had asked that his remains be returned to his native land to rest beside those of his brother Edward, who had also died in service. Uniformed member of the American Legion, his comrades in arms, escorted the flag-draped casket to the Methodist Church in Burr Oak, Saturday afternoon, where funeral services were held, being conducted by Rev J A Stansbury, assisted by Rev W A Smith and Rev J G Demoret. The business of the town was suspended during the services and the church was filled to over-flowing with friends and acquaintances, come to do honor to the departed. Here the following obituary was read: Private Charles F., eldest son of John and Lena Karnatz, was born near St Francis, Kansas, Sep 12, 1888 and departed this life in a hospital in France, October 6, 1918 age 30 years and 24 days. The cause of his death was lobar pneumonia. He came with his parents to Jewell County in 1909, where he lived at home with them until he answered his countries call as a volunteer Dec 12, 1917. Enlisting at Belleville, Kansas in the coast artillery, he was sent to Ft Logan, Colorado then to San Francisco, California and from there to France, at the time of his death being the Battery #, 52nd C A C. He was converted when a young man of 18 years in a meeting held by Reg Wigfield at Ensign schoolhouse and thereafter took his place in the family devotions. While being quiet and unassuming in his manner, he was always ready and anxious to help others in need. Charley was a great home boy, devoting his life to the cares and work of the farm. He had great regard for the wishes of his father and mother, being a model young man in the home life. He was a very affectionate son and considerate and brother and friend to all. Thus have the family been called upon the second time to offer a son upon the alter of their county. Edward dying at Camp Funston in Nov 1918. There are left to mourn their loss father, mother, 3 brothers, 1 sister, besides other relatives and friends. In the beautiful Burr Oak cemetery the body was laid to rest with military ceremonies. Across the open grace was fired the salute to the dead the bugle sounded the farewell "Taps" and the remains of the American soldier were at last at rest near the scenes of his youth. | Karnatz, Charles Frederick (I105925)
