Dora Elizabeth Sholtz was born to William "Bill" and Mary Minnie Schultz Sholtz March 29, 1908 near Burr Oak in Jewell County, Kansas. She was the fourth child and only daughter, her brothers being Clarence, Elmer, Wilbur and George. She died Tuesday, Jan 21, 1992, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 22 days.
She grew up in Jewell County, Kansas and started to school in Webber and attended O'Neal and Rose Hill school districts near Burr Oak through the eighth grade. She also attended Sunday school near Burr Oak.
Feb 26, 1930, she and Albert Payne were united in marriage at Mankato. Two children, Darlene Opal and Ronald Albert, were born to this union. They lived on the Payne family farm northwest of Guide Rock, in east Garfield Township, until moving into Guide Rock in 1934.
She helped her husband in his business, Payne Repair, as a secretary and together they also managed the Guide Rock Opera House for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, of 61 years, her parents and three brothers, Clarence, Elmer and George.
Survivors are her daughter, Mrs Eldon Yung (Darlene), Warrensburg, Mo.; her son, Ronald Payne, Glen Elder, Kansas; her brother, Wilbur Sholtz, Guide Rock; five grandchildren, Larry Yung of Warrensburg, Mo., Mrs Larry Shackelford (Ronda) of Cole Camp, Mo., Mrs Len Herrick (Ronni) of Franklin, Mrs Kendall O'Neal (Sandra of Wellington, Kansas and Mrs Brian Murray (Debra) of Mankato; 12 great grandchildren, Kim Billingsley and Riley Yung of Warrensburg, Mo., Trudy Yung of Buena Park, Calif., Marsh and Bradley Shackelford of Camp Cole, Mo., Travis and Chad Wulf and Jenny Herrick of Franklin, Adam and Kendra O'Neal of Wellington, Kansas, Codi Rhea and Brent Murray of Mankato; and many other relatives.
The funeral was Saturday, Jan 25, 1992, from the Simonsen-Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Red Cloud, with the Rev Marvin Palmer officiating. Interment was in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
