Funeral services for Louisa Hirning, 95, of Mott, will be Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mott, ND. Rev. John Amundson will officiate and burial will follow at the Sunnyslope Cemetery in Mott. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Mott and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday afternoon.
LOUISA ROTH was born on November 8, 1909 in Leipzig, ND to Christian and Julianna (Hintz) Roth. She grew up in their sod house and attended German School District No. 4 through the 6th grade. Louisa worked with her family on the farm from a young age. She was baptized on January 9, 1910 at the Johannestal Congregational Church and later confirmed on April 13, 1924 at the Hebron Congregational Church.
Louisa met Reinhardt Hirning and they were married on November 3, 1932. Together they farmed, raised a few cattle and chickens during the hard years of the 1930's. On November 8, 1937, their daughter, Luciele was born while they were staying at the Ed Mehrer farm. In November of 1942 they purchased a farm 7 miles southeast of Mott, ND. Louisa did most of the farming because Reinhardt had to work outside of farming to make a living. They lived there until 1963 when they moved the house into Mott, ND. Louisa was a member of the First Congregational Church in Mott and served as a Deaconess for 20 years and as a custodian for 15 years. She was a member of the Ladies Aide, Britton Township Homemakers, and also drove school bus for 10 years. Louisa was a 4-H leader for the Flickertail 4-H Club, was active in starting the Mott Cannonball Senior Citizens and served in different offices including President. Louisa was an avid supporter of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society.
Reinhardt Hirning passed away in 1986. Louisa sold the house and moved into an apartment in Mott in 1987. She later moved into the Dakota Hills in Elgin, ND and entered the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in 2004, where she passed from this life on Sunday morning September 18, 2005.
Louisa enjoyed crocheting and harddanger embroidery and traveling to New Hampshire to see her daughter and family. She especially enjoyed her great-grandchildren and was blessed to live long enough to see three of them into adulthood. Louisa enjoyed going to the Pheasant Café in Mott for coffee and visiting with her friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her two sisters, Hilda Zimmerman and Frieda Bennett; her brother, Paul Roth; one daughter, Luciele and husband Pertice Gaskill; granddaughter Luciele Ivy Lucia and husband Mark; great-granddaughter Jennifer May Noyes and Melissa June Noyes; grandson Pertice Clark Gaskill and wife Joell and great-grandsons Peter Cade Gaskill and Tucker Aiden Gaskill; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews and their families. Preceding Louisa in death were her parents, Christian and Julianna Roth, two sisters, Ida Klein and Esther Zimmerman and three brothers, Reinhold, Clarence and Gottlieb Roth.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be given in her name to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mott or to the Mott Cannonball Senior Center.
