Rolly was born with Down Syndrome. His life was one of pure joy. He loved people and loved making them smile. At every family reunion, Rolly was the "official" greeter, giving everyone big hugs and smiles. He was always the sweetest person in the room.
Rolland Keith Griess was born January 2, 1956, in Henderson, NE to Ruben and Viola (Rauscher) Griess. He was baptized April 8, 1956, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE by Rev. Calvin Stuebbe and Confirmed March 22, 1970, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE by Rev. George Bartell. He was raised in Sutton and attended Hope Training School. Later he moved to Hastings, NE and was associated with Mid Nebraska Individual Services until 2009, when he began residing at Good Samaritan in Hastings, NE.
Rolland was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE. He was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed attending Sutton High School athletic events. Rolland was also very involved with Special Olympics and competed on the state basketball team.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Dennis Vitosh of Diller, NE; brother-in-law, Ralph Jay of Syracuse, NE; friend, Lisa Small of Hastings, NE; nieces, Karla Lamphere of Hooksett, NH and Brenda Stengel of Shickley, NE; nephews, Craig Vitosh of Rowlett, TX and Brian Jay of Omaha, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lola Jay.
