Charles W. Truitt, 82, a long time East Wenatchee resident, passed away on May 23, 2007, at Highgate Assisted Care Cottage.
Dad was born on June 1, 1924, in Malaga, WA to Noble and Mary (Humphreys) Truitt. Dad was raised in Malaga and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1942. After graduation, Dad went to work at the Todd Shipyards in Seattle, WA.
Moving back to Wenatchee, he drove trucks for Reid Trucking, always stopping at the Washington Market in Wenatchee for fresh maple bars. Friends, Wayne and Alice Kellogg, introduced Dad to Mom, Doris Hildebrand. They fell in love and married March 28, 1946. In 1946, Dad was drafted into the Army. Mom and Dad had four children, Dick, Terri, Chuck and Patti. Dad worked for Wenatchee Paint and Glass and Fuller Paint and Glass. In 1959, Dad and Mom went into business with Mom's sister and brother-in-law, Glen and Rosella Nelsen, to open Eastside Paint and Glass. Dad and Mom had the glass department. Dad worked hard, but loved his business, retiring in 1987. Dad and Mom enjoyed traveling with relatives and friends, taking three different cruises and a lot of RV-ing. Mom passed away December 12, 1999, leaving Dad lost. He moved into Blossom Creek Memory Care Facility in 2002, and then transferred to Highgate Cottage in February of this year. We would like to thank all the aides and nurses at Blossom Creek and Highgate, especially Anna, his pal at Highgate, for all their excellent care and the visits they made to see Dad. Dad is survived by his children, Dick (Helen) Truitt of East Wenatchee, Terri (Fred) Van Lith of East Wenatchee, Chuck Truitt of East Wenatchee and Patti (Jack) Lyon of Mesa, AZ; his sisters, Inez Morgan of East Wenatchee and Margaret Murphy of Missoula, MT; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Jay. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Evergreen memorial Park Cemetery in East Wenatchee with Pastor Jim Deal officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Hospice Care of Wenatchee and The Appleaires Choral Society of Wenatchee. Visitations will be Monday, May 28, 2007, from 1-8 p.m. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley.
