www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=140350500Arelene Jean Schlepp was born at Java SD, Walworth County, to John W. and Magdalena (Hochstatter) Schlepp on Nov. 18, 1931. She attended school in Java through 11th grade and graduated from Selby High School in 1950. Arelene worked as a waitress, variety store clerk, Super Products Secretary and clerk of a Nutrition Site. She also clerked auction sales with her husband for the Bowdle State Bank.
On March 21, 1954, Arelene married Mahlon H. Gross in the Episcopalian Church in Brookings, SD.
Arelene was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Bowdle where she taught Sunday School for many years. She served on the administration board as Secretary and Trustee and was a member of the Women’s Society for many years, holding many offices through the years. Arelene was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen which she has enjoyed thoroughly through kind and loving members, staff and devoted pastors.
Some of the most precious people in her life were her special grandson, who brought much joy into her life, her helpful and caring sons and special care giver Tom. She loved reading Christian books (many on her Kindle Fire), her Bible and having her daily devotions. Arelene was a great Minnesota Twins fan, she loved professional ice skating, flowers, gardening and decorating for the holidays. She loved giving out Dove chocolates to friends and anyone who helped her or just plain needed a smile or uplifting. She cherished her collection of angel figurines. She enjoyed cooking, baking and doing crossword puzzles.
Grateful for having shared Arelene’s life are her sons; Tim (Linda) Gross and Tom Gross, one grandson, one sister in law, Doris Campbell, brother-in-law, Nelvin Roebuck, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her husband Mahlon Gross, parents, John W and Magdalena (Lena) Schlepp, three sisters, Lilian (Ellsworth) Randall, Delores (Alvin) Bauer, Mary Lou Roebuck and one brother Verton (Wally) Schlepp.
