Viola (Vi) Franks, 84, entered into rest on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Vi was born in Logansport, Indiana in 1926, however her family shortly moved to Kansas where her father served as a Presbyterian minister. She attended high school at Abilene, Kansas and went to Park College in Kansas City, Missouri graduating in 1947. She attended a summer theatre program in Pasadena, California and later got a teaching job at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture. She met Lawrence Franks, who was attending college at Texas A & M University at College Station and they married the summer of 1948. Her husband became a county agricultural extension agent after serving in the U. S. Navy and upon graduation from Texas A & M. They moved to Raymondville in 1952 where Vi taught school making a total of 33 teaching years. All her students loved her gifted way of teaching and so appreciated the love she extended to each of them as she made their learning fun.
She had a deep love for her Lord and lived her life full of grace and beauty. When trials came her way, she always met them with faith in God's word and made the best of every situation. As she lived her life of giving to family and friends, she stood as an example of a woman of noble character. We will miss her smile and loving touch. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Raymondville.
She is preceded in death by her father, Rev. E. L Brandner; mother Florence Lynas Brandner; husband, Lawrence Franks; 2 daughters Laura Leigh Franks and Sally Jo Franks, 1 brother Silas Brandner.
Surviving family members include her son Dr. Larry Franks (Beverly) from Harlingen, 2 grandaughters, Jennifer (Chris) Lowery from Harlingen and Jody (Carter) Truly from McKinney, Texas and 4 great-grandsons, Grant, Will, Luke and Weston and 1 great-grandaughter, Violet; 1 niece, Alice Notari and 1 nephew Dr. Ed Brandner.
The family would like to send our loving thanks to Lupe Pineda, Aida Salinas and Missy Quiroga for the wonderful care given to Vi. And many thanks to Dr. John Ferris for his many years of excellent medical care and advice.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Lynn Johnson, Richard Johnson, Mark Jud, Mark Brown, Chris Lowery and Carter Truly.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church 192 S. 3rd Street, Raymondville on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home (956) 689-2151.
