Harold Duane Siebler was born March 24th, 1926, on a farm place near Platte Center to Henry and Martha (Borchers) Siebler. He was the second of three children; he had a brother stillborn in 1925 and a younger sister, Lanora. Harold was both baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Grand Prairie Church. He attended schools near Platte Center (Districts 12 & 56) & then at Humphrey and two years at Platte Center High School--staying home his last year of high school to help with farming.
Harold was drafted to the army for the Korean War in April, 1951 at the age of 25. He trained in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for 14 weeksand then served in Japan and Korea, spending 6 months on the front lines. Harold was released from active duty in March, 1953. He was in the inactive reserves for five years following and later joined the Veteran of Foreign Wars (#3704) and American Legion (Hartman Post #84).
After the war, Harold worked for Fleisher and Schmidt in the punch/press from 1953-1955. He then moved on to Behlen Manufacturings Tool and Dye department, working 33 years as a machinist until his retirement in 1988.
Harold enjoyed hunting (deer, antelope, and pheasant), golfing, bowling, playing cards, attending ball games in Columbus, and watching sports on TV. He was a season ticket holder of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football team since 1962 and even followed them to Hawaii. He loved fishing and made 13 trips to Canada to catch Walleye and Northern Pike. He worshipped faithfully at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus since 1953. He also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels. He was a devoted brother, uncle and friend. He made several visits to California to see his nieces families and faithfully kept in touch through letters and cards.
Harold is survived by one sister, Lanora (Siebler) Sorensen of Wayne; two nieces, Anne (Sorensen) Bierling of Porter Ranch, CA and Lori (Sorensen) Lange of Cypress, CA; seven great nephews and nieces and many cousins/relatives.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, and his brother-in-law, Delwyn Sorensen.
