Lorraine Gehring, 88, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Golden LivingCenter in Columbus.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church Grand Prairie with Rev. Theresa Meyer officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. today at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m.
Memorials are suggested to the church, Alzheimer's Association, or the donor's choice.
Lorraine was born May 2, 1922, in rural Platte County to Gerhard and Anna (Deken) Fittje. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church north of Columbus and was educated at St. John's Lutheran School. She married Julius Gehring in 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Omaha. Lorraine and Julius farmed until 1979, when they moved to a home near Columbus. Lorraine enjoyed gardening, preserving fruits and vegetables, singing in the church choir and socializing with friends in the Ladies Aid and Upper 10 Extension Club.
Lorraine is survived by: Husband - Julius Gehring, of Columbus; son - Darold (Diane) Gehring, of Platte Center; daughter - Janet (Martin) Wiesehan, of Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren - Kimberly Gehring, of Norfolk, Andrew Gehring, of Platte Center, Matthew Wiesehan, of Peoria, Ill., and Nathan Wiesehan, of Peoria, Ill.; sisters-in-law - Elsie Fittje, of Columbus, and Lillian Fittje, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lorraine was preceded in death by: parents - Gerhard and Anna Fittje; eight brothers and two sisters.
