(from local obituary) Herbert Lehr, 68, a prominent Lodi businessman, died Sunday evening in a local hospital following a sudden illness. Mr. Lehr was owner and operator of General Sheet Metal shop on East Lodi Avenue for 36 years before selling the business when he retired in 1982. He was very active in community activities and specialized in cooking dinners for a number of organizations. He served on the committee to close railroad crossings and was a member of Lodi Elks Lodge No. 1900 and Lodi SIRS. He was born in Lehr, North Dakota and came to Lodi at an early age. He attended local schools and married Mary Moresino in Carson City, Nevada in 1941. During World War II, Mr. Lehr built and repaired submarines for the U. S. Navy. He began his own business in the fall of 1946. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lehr; his son, Dr. James Lehr; a daughter, Debbie Lehr-Lee; two sisters, Ida Moroney, Martha Grillo; two brothers, William Lehr and Albert Lehr; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Lehr is preceded in death by seven brothers, Andrew, Jack, Harry, John, Robert, Sam and Walter Lehr; one sister, Hilda McBee. Funeral services will be held on Thursday in the Lodi Funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronald Grelich of Salem United Methodist church and Lodi Elks Lodge No. 1900 officiating. Interment will follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
