Ida Schiermeister, 94, formerly of Hazelton, died Jan. 3, 2010, in the Strasburg Care Center. Memorial services have been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hazelton, with the Rev. Eugene Roecker officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in Gayton Gimbel Lutheran Cemetery.
Ida was born May 12, 1915, on a farm near Wishek, the daughter of Nicholas and Pauline (Bridling) Humann. She attended country school. Ida married William “Willie” Schiermeister on Feb. 14, 1935, at Ida’s Homestead, nine miles northwest of Wishek. They farmed southwest of Hazelton until retiring in 1991, at which time they moved into Hazelton. Willie died on May 22, 2001.
Ida continued to live in Hazelton until entering the Baptist Home for one year and then the Strasburg Care Center on Feb. 14, 2007. Ida enjoyed playing cards, cooking, quilting and fishing.
Grateful to have shared her life are one son, Roger Schiermeister, Hazelton; three daughters and one son-in-law, Yvonne Maier, Menoken, Iva Burchett, Strasburg, and Pam and Dave Stramer, Hazelton; eight grandchildren, Valerie (Durwin) Power, Wanda Maier, LeAnn (Kim) Kakela, Gina Graf, Danielle (Robert) Scharnowske, Clare (Pete) Bauman, Wyatt (Dani) Stramer and Cody (Shelley) Stramer; 11 great-grandchildren, DJ (Dawn) Power, Casey Power, Channing (Kelly) Azure, Karle and Kelse Kakela, Lane and Brady Bauman, Jager and Ryder Stramer and Hope and Faith Stramer; one great-great-grandchild, Jeven; and one sister, Alma Ritter, Williston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2001, and 10 brothers and sisters.
