Oscar Kreil, 86, Jamestown, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.
Mr. Kreil was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Reinhold and Christena (Ruff) Kreil. He grew up and attended various country schools in the Gackle area. He entered the U.S. Army on June 24, 1943. He served in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 10, 1945. He married Virginia Orr on Nov. 1, 1946, in Valley City, N.D. He worked as a security guard at the North Dakota State Hospital, Jamestown. She died July 29, 1990. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
He is survived by three sisters, Lorraine (Alan) Vanderberg, Alice Vipperman and Viona Orr, all Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one sister, Alvina Fietzek; and six brothers, Alvin, Alden, Alroy, Reuben, Jack and Wilbert.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Hi-Acres Memorial Chapel with Chaplain David Fisher officiating.
