Theodore M. Hecker, 93, Dickinson, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius, Dickinson. Theodore’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Dallas Carlson presiding.
Ted was born January 3, 1924, and grew up farming and ranching with his parents Carl and Monica (Obrigewitsch) Hecker and their large family west of Dickinson. He served honorably in the United States Army from November 14, 1945 to December 9, 1946. He left farming and lived and worked in Center, with his Texan wife Lillian, and her little dog, who preceded him in death.
He later moved to Dickinson. He had a woman friend for many years. They danced and he cared for her until his untimely fall which was the beginning of the end. He wanted to live to be 100 but after living shortly at the nursing home he decided better of it. He leaves behind two sisters, a couple old cowboy brothers, gaggles of nieces and nephews. Bless his soul
Ted is survived by his siblings, Lydia Boltz, Dickinson, Elvira (Sylvester) Schuster, Minot, Bernard Hecker, Cottonwood, Ariz., Leo Hecker, Valley City and Adam Hecker, Dickinson; and special friend, Margaret Paulson, Dickinson.
