John Benson, 87, prominent pioneer of Clay County, died at Saronville, Nebr., at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 1930. He had been a county commissioner of Clay County for about 12 years and was vice-president of the Farmers State Bank of Saronville at the time of his death. He was the builder of an elevator at Saronville that was later sold to the Farmers Co-operative Elevator association.
Mr. Benson was born in Sweden, coming to Ashland in 1868, where he lived for about two years. He then moved to Friend, living there for about eight and one-half years , where he was a section foreman on the Burlington. Upon coming to the Saronville vicinity, he moved to a farm one mile north of town. He moved into town in 1905.
He is survived by his wife, and five sons, J. L. Benson, C. A. Benson, Albert, Sanford and Gotfred, all of Saronville; four daughters, Mrs. J. A. Aspegren, Lincoln; Mrs. Martin Swanson, Verona; Mrs. Arthur Sedersten, Sutton, and Mrs. Nelson, Omaha.
