Mildreds childhood memories of growing up on the farm were filled with activiteds such as running races, playing tag, hide and seek in the cornfield adn singing in the hay loft with her siblings. They would challege each other to see who could climb the highest in the tree and she said Well, it was never me.
Mildred attended Kindergarten, first grade and part of 2nd grade at at District 2 Country School.
She attended St. Josephat's Catholic school through 8th grade, she walked serveral miles to attend the country school and during the winter storms her mom would walk them to school.
She would spend her high school years at various schools, freshman at the Loup City High School, 10th & 11th at Wiggle Creek High School and her Senior at St. Paul High School in St. Paul NE.

It was in her Senior year of school that she met the love of her life, Donald Zimbelman. She attended a wedding dance of Don's brother and after Peter Peterson introduced them, they became inseparable.
Don, was a salior in War World II and was home on leave. When he returned to active duty they wrote each other everyday. Upon his return they were married on March 8-1947. They celebarated 70 years together.
In the summer of 1948, Mildred accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. She always felt it was a honor to be chosen to sing for God and teach Sunday School.
Mildred began her teaching career at Victory Hill, a country school. She was awarded "Teacher of the Year for the country and received a lifetime membership of Nebraska PTA.
