William settled at œBolthrope, a few miles northwest of Nutmeg Quarter. œBolthorpe, which would remain a Cole manor for nearly 100 years, lay next to œWindmill Point of Col. Miles Cary. William added 1,433 acres œcommonly called Newport News 20 April 1685.
William Cole served on the Council (1675-1692). During Bacon™s Rebellion he was one of two members authorized to negotiate with Bacon. He sided with Berkeley and was denounced as one of the governor™s œevil advisors. He was once deputy escheater.
