Orville Waterbury was born May 1, 1927 at Burke, South Dakota to George, Sr. and Rebecca (Bohnet) Waterbury. He died February 21, 2008 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 20 days. Orville was born to a family of two brothers and two sisters. He attended rural schools in Gregory County, South Dakota through the eighth grade. He then attended two years at Burke High School. He was united in marriage to Viola Frank on January 14, 1951 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Burke, South Dakota. He entered the Army on February 15, 1951 and served until January 29, 1953, serving a tour of duty in Korea. During his military service he forged many life-long friendships. After his discharge he came back to Herrick where they purchased the Ernest Kappe farm. He spent his entire life on the farm until moving into Burke in February of 2005. He enjoyed playing cards, pulling pranks, hunting, fishing, gardening and having coffee with his friends. He helped start the Herrick Baseball Field, the Herrick Little League and the City Park. He was a life-long member of the Allen Louden American Legion Post 220 at Herrick and the Burke VFW. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Herrick and later Grace Lutheran Church in Burke. Orville was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola; brothers Walt and George, Jr.; sisters Mildred Waterbury and Irene Campbell; brothers-in-law: John Frank, Cal Allum, and Wilbur Campbell; sisters-in-law: Patsy Frank, Virgnia Frank, Sara Goodman and Leona Allum; and two nieces: Sandra Campbell and Joy Bruns. Orville is survived by his sons: Bob and wife Robyn of Herrick, SD; Jim and wife Clara of Bonesteel, SD; and Ken and wife Brenda of Brandon, SD; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Helen Waterbury of Burke, SD and Dorothy Waterbury of Gregory, SD; Gilbert Frank of Burke, SD; Erna Carlson and husband Carl of Vermillion, SD; Alice Carlson and husband Lowell of Chamberlain, SD; Milton Frank and wife Alicia of Canoga Park, CA; Elmer Frank of Gregory, SD; Roy Goodman of Burke, SD; Iola Frank of Burke, SD and his grandchildren: Walker, Jerrod, D'Marcus, Jaden, Hailey, Carmelo, Christel, Chela (Nick), Charlie, Martha and Justine and 2 great-grandchildren: Zane and Arianna; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, SD. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke and continue from 6 to 7 PM at the Church. There will be a prayer service on Sunday at 7:00 PM at the Church.
