She was one of 15 children, and was educated in a country school near Antelope. Martha worked for various farms as a hired girl around the Richardton and Dickinson areas. She also spent some time as a waitress, and also at a cannery factory in Olympia, Wash.
Martha returned to Hebron in 1944, where she met Albert Staiger. The Staiger's were married Feb. 27, 1945, in Hebron. To this union there were five children born. Martha was a dedicated farmers wife and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an excellent hostess and enjoyed cooking, always having room for one more around the dining room table.
The Staiger's lived on a farm southwest of Glen Ullin when the children were young, and in 1968, they moved to Hebron. In 1970, they moved to a farm 12 miles south of Hebron. She enjoyed quilting, crafts and belonged to the Wildrose Homemakers Club, until the time of her death. She enjoyed gardening and had many African Violets.
Martha gave her life to the Lord at age 24, and served Him in many ways. She was a Sunday school teacher and a leader in the church in various capacities. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.
