With the passing of Jacob Rath another one of the early day settlers of Cheyenne county as gone to his reward.
Jacob Rath was born in Southern Russia, October 12, 1861 and passed away Sunday night, August 15, 1948 at his home on the farm northwest of St Francis, Kansas the place he homesteaded in the year 1885.
As a young man of 21 in 1885, he homesteaded northwest he homesteaded northwest of St Francis on which place he lived the remainder of his life.
On November 28, 1898 he was united in holy wedlock to Miss Emma Karnatz at Red Cloud, Nebr, To this union seven children were born, three sons and four daughters. The oldest boy passed away at the early age of four years and nine months.
The other children and their mother are all living. The children are Mrs Elizabeth Rose of Russville, Ill; Mrs Anna Stevens and Mrs Luella Combs, Denver, Colo; Edward of Laird, Colo; Mrs Elsie Overholser of Carlin, Nev.; and Lloyd of the home.
Mr Rath was taken ill some weeks ago and his condition became more serious from day to day and Sunday evening August 15, he fell asleep at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 5 days. May he rest in peace.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and six children, thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs John Nodle of Sutton,Nebr and one brother, Dan Rath of St Francis, Kans. Also a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, August 18, at 2 p.m, with Rev I T Allen
