Thomas J. Newbury, 71, of 1113 Kenyon Avenue died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital. Cause of death was listed as a stroke.
Mr. Newbury was hospitalized following a one-car accident on Monday on Interstate 80 just west of the Casey exit.
The Highway Patrol said Mr. Newbury was a passenger in a car that went out of control and rolled over in the median.
Mrs. Newbury suffered cuts and bruises in the accident. Driver of the car, identified as Mrs. Fannie Hawmaker (sic: actually Hawbaker), 62, of 4800 S, Union Street, suffered a broken shoulder and several broken ribs, according to the Highway Patrol.
Funeral services for Mr. Newbury will be Friday at Dahlstrom Funeral here (Des Moines), with burial in Bretheren Cemetery at Dallas Center.
A native of Perry, he was a retired small appliance repairman for Iowa Power and Light Co. He was a charter member of Local 499 of the Electrical Workers Union and a member of the Baptist church.
Besides his wife, Leah; survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Myrna Agan of Des Moines; three brothers, Jesse of Des Moines, Leonard of Selma, California, and Leonard (sic: actually Harry), in Maryland; two sisters, Mrs. Janette Case of Des Moines and Mrs. Perry (sic: actually Peggy) Nickolisen (sic: actually Nicolaisen) of Perry, and three grandchildren.
