WISHEK - August Meidinger, 98, Wishek, died Aug. 18, 2009, at Wishek Home for the Aged. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at United Church of Christ, Wishek. Burial will be in New Kassel Cemetery, rural Zeeland.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
August Meidinger, son of Christian and Katherina (Villhauer) Meidinger, was born Oct. 17, 1910, on the family farm in rural McIntosh County, near Zeeland. He was raised on the family farm and received his elementary education in rural McIntosh County Schools. Following his education he continued to live and farm with his family. August married Hilda Just on Nov. 22, 1932, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church at rural Zeeland. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm 10 miles north of Zeeland, where they farmed and raised their family. In 1969, they moved to Eureka, S.D., where they lived for eight years. In 1977, they moved to Wishek, where he had lived since that time. Hilda passed away May 10, 1994. August enjoyed playing cards, playing pool, fishing and watching Twins Baseball on television. August was a member of the United Church of Christ, Wishek.
August is survived by three sons and three daughters, Eugene Meidinger, Missoula, Mont., Lloyd (Carol) Meidinger, Bismarck, Arnold Meidinger (special friend Sharon Dollens) Minot, Marlys (Dan) Sayler, Wishek, Alice (Julius) Weist, Wishek, and Carmen (Curt) Wiedmeier, Bismarck; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda; two infant daughters; his parents; six brothers; and one sister.
