EDUCATION: Attended elementary school (grades 1-8) in Jordan, Garfield Co, MT. 1940 - graduated (valedictorian) from Thompson Falls (Sanders Co, MT) High School.
MILITARY: US Navy. [16 Sep 1942 to 5 Apr 1946] November 1942 Pasco, WA for Naval basic training, then was machinist mate there in 1943-44. Went to Philippines aboard Provo Victory (AK228). Discharged in April 1946. Service # is 665 1526, not 655 1526. (August 30, 2009 - said he spent 3 1/2 years in Pasco. Naval pilots were trained there and when they reached the point when they could have passengers, Lou was able to go along..and be paid to do so.)
OCCUPATION: Summer 1940 worked for Forest Service. Then CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) for 16 months, including time at Albertson Spike Camp, Fort Missoula, MT. 1942 worked as machinist at Remington Firearms in Denver, CO until drafted for World War II. Began work as machinist for Continental Can Company Plant 13 in Seattle 13 January 1947. When Seattle plant closed, transferred to Junction City, OR in January, 1973. Retired 31 January 1987, with 40 years service.
HOBBIES: Gardening, photography, carpentry, bridge, travel, crossword puzzles.
