      "In the tradition of rich history of Cal Poly baseball, .. nobody represented Cal Poly baseball better than Berdy Harr. As an assistant coach from 1969-71, and head coach from 1972-1983, Harr recorded over 200 wins in his eleven years with the Mustangs.. Harr remains one of the all-time winningest coaches in school history with a record of 297-294-5 for a winning percentage of .544. .. Berdy passed away in 1990. He is survived by his wife Jeane and two daughters, Gina and Angela.

      Berdy V. Harr, 55, of Los Osos died Sunday, Dec. 2, 1990, at a San Luis Obispo hospital.. Private burial will follow in Los Osos Valley Memorial Park. Mr. Harr as born Aug. 29, 1935, in Jamestown, N.D. His family moved to Mobile, Ala., when he was 2 years old. he was educated in Mobile and attended Murphy High School for three years. His family then moved to California, and he graduated from Lynwood Academy. He completed two years of college at Compton Junior college and graduated from Long Beach State University with a bachelor's degree in physical education. After serving two years in the Army, he returned to Long Beach State in 1960 to earn his teaching credential. He taught for nine years at Lynwood High School and was also the captain of the baseball team. He married Jeanne Collier in Pasadena in 1964, and they moved to Los Osos in 1970. Mr. Harr began his teaching career at Cal Poly in the fall of 1970 and also served as assistant baseball coach. During this time he earned his master's degree in education from Chapman College. He was the head baseball coach at Cal Poly from 1972 to 1983, when he left coaching to begin a career in the insurance industry. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Beta Phi fraternity at Compton Junior College and Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Long Beach State. Mr Harr was a devoted and loving father. In addition to his wife, Jeanne, he is survived by two daughters, Gina Marie Harr of San Luis Obispo and Angela Nicole Harr of Mobile, Ala.; and his mother, Vesta R. Harr of Los Osos. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Harr, in 1953
