Homfeld, 88, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Bremer will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Homfeld was born Oct. 14, 1914, at Syracuse to William and Rebecca (Rippe) Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Homfeld, in October 1996. Survivors include six daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Norman Stelk, Charlene and Gary Peterson and Rosalie and Roger Roscoe, all of Grand Island, Norma Jean and Loy Glause of Palmer, Carolyn and Larry Ossana of Hurricane, Utah, and Donna and Ken Noel of Papillion. She was also survived by 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters and two stepgreat-great-grandsons. She grew up in the Unadilla area and received her education at Unadilla Schools. She was confirmed at North Branch. She was united in marriage to Henry Homfeld on Dec. 21, 1935, at Nebraska City. The couple made their home and farmed in Otoe and Syracuse. In December 1951, the family moved to Grand Island, where she worked for Hesteds, the Grand Island Public School System, Drive In Theater and The Grand Island Independent. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed going to softball games and gardening. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister and two grandsons.
