      BIOGRAPHY: In 1657, one Samuel Wust and his wife, Margareta, migrated from Switzerland to the Palatinate, settling in Steinweiler, a village not far beyond the boundaries of Guttenberg. They had formerly resided in the town of Kutingen, canton Aargau, (Switz.). He was born in Küttigen and baptized on April 10, 1631, in the Kirchberg church as the son of Jacob Wüst and Barbara formerly Frey. Küttigen today is a suburb of Aarau, the Capital of the Canton of Aargau , and not very attractive. The little Kirchberg church is more so, standing on a hill overlooking the countryside. Incidentally, the Wüsts seem to come from that region. There are also Wüsts and Wüschts in that part of the country. The Canton or Aargau was subject country to the City of Bern at that time. It was Napoleon I who freed it from the Bern yoke in 1803.Notes from-Wiest Family History - excerpts from extensive research done by Pete and Annemarie from the Küttigen State Archives, Switzerland. This is not important to our line of descent [NOTE: This is Brian Barr Wiest speaking about his line of descent], for as stated, no precise relationship has been established between any of the Guttenberg Wusts and the Swiss families. But it does show a migratory pattern, and suggests that there is a relationship, albeit distant. This circumstance could apply to the first Georg Wust of Dierbach who, presumably, came from Austria.
      Hi Herb and Mary Lee,
      Yesterday we went to Küttigen and to the State Archive to check on one Samuel Wüst. Frankly, we didn't find much but have at least confirmed his birth...

      We are both fine. Annemarie's cataract operation was quite successful.
      Right now we have thunderstorms breaking the heat wave we had since June.
      This means, we just take it easy.
      Take care. All the best

      Samuel Wüst, Küttigen, Switzerland
      Küttigen is situated near Aarau, the Capital of the Canton of Aargau. It has started to register marriages, baptisms and death starting 1605. Microfilms are available at the State Archive which we have visited today (July 16, 2003).
      We have found the Samuel (1)Wüst mentioned in you r email dated May 20. He was born in Küttigen and baptized on April 10, 1631, in the Kirchberg church as the son of Jacob Wüst and Barbara formerly Frey.
      We have not found a wedding entry of him and Margaretha Unknown. Presumably, they have not been married in the Kirchberg church.
      We have not found a baptism entry of their son Samuel (2)Wüst, although we checked the registers from 1640 - 1657 (their date of departure to Steinweiler in the Pfalz). Nor have we found any brothers or sisters.
      There are no other documents (population census or so) available from that period;

      Since Samuel was baptized on April 10, 1631, my guess is that he would have been born just a short time earlier in 1631.
