Welling is a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada within Cardston County. It is located north of the junction of Highway 5 and Highway 52, approximately 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of the City of Lethbridge.

History:

The hamlet was first settled at the turn of the 20th century by Mormon pioneers from Utah. Its name came from the Welling Branch, the Mormon congregation that was established there in 1903. The Welling Branch was named after Job Welling of Farmington, Utah. Welling is the historic site of the world's first side-delivery rodeo bucking chute. In 1916 Welling rancher, John W. Bascom, and his sons put on ranch rodeos for which they designed and built rodeo's first side-delivery bronc chute. John Bascom and his sons - Raymond, Melvin, Earl and Weldon - have been inducted into Halls of Fame for their rodeo achievements and contributions.
