For over thirty-five years C. Clausing was closely and prominently connected with business interests of Denver as the owner of a large sawmill and by reason of his energy and industry won a gratifying degree of success in the conduct of his enterprise and a comfortable fortune, upon which he is now living retired. He is one of the pioneer settlers in Bremer county, his residence here dating from 1859, and his birth occurred in Germany in 1832. The parents died in the fatherland and afterward C. Clausing came to America, settling near Chicago, Illinois, in 1851. He worked at the carpentering trade in that city for eight years and then in 1859 came to Iowa among the early settlers taking up his home on the present site of the town of Denver. He bought eighty acres of land, which he afterward sold, turning his attention to the operation of a shingle factory. Later he bought a share in a sawmill at Denver, afterward acquiring the whole plant, which he owned and operated for thirty-five years thereafter, becoming recognized as one of the prosperous and able business men of the city. He accumulated a comfortable competency and at length, feeling that he had earned a period of leisure, he retired from active life. He owns a fine home in Denver and one hundred and sixty acres of improved land in North Dakota.
In 1860 Mr. Clausing married Miss Charlotte Mohling, a native of Germany, who came to America with her parents in 1852 and settled in Bremer county, Iowa. The father followed farming in this locality until his death. He and his wife became the parents of nine children: John, who has passed away; Wilhelmina, the deceased wife of Fred Bruns; Fred, also deceased; Henry, of Denver, Iows, Christian, of Fredericksburg; Christopher, a resident of Tripoli; Charlotte, the wife of the subject of this review; Carl, deceased; and one, who died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Clausing have five children: Wilhelmina, the wife of Joe Kelling, of Maxfield, Iowa; Carl, of North Dakota; Herman, who owns his father's homestead and also operates the old sawmill at Denver; Lisette, the wife of George Meyer, of Bremer county; and Louisa, who married Ernest Carson, of Fredericksburg.
Mr. Clausing is a member of the Evangelical church. He is numbered among the early settlers in this locality and during the fifty-four years of his residence here has witnessed a great deal of its development and growth. He has himself borne an important part in the work of development and well deserves the place which he occupies today among representative and worthy citizens.
Conrad Clausing, Denver's oldest resident, died Monday morning at the advanced age of 89 years. His health had been fairly good up to a week ago but he contracted a cold and complications caused death. His widow is seriously ill. A private funeral service will be from the home. At 1 p. m. o'clock, a service will be given by the women in the Evangelical church.

Funeral services will be held at Denver Ia., probably Sunday afternoon, for Mrs. Erhardt Lierman 29, formerly of Waterloo and a native of Denver, who died at 9 pm Saturday at her home in Filer, Id., after four weeks Illness of
typhoid fever. Before her marriage. Mrs. Lierman, whose maiden name was Luella Meyer, was employed in Waterloo by the Paul Davis Dry Goods company. She was born at Denver, Feb. 2. 1904 and was married Feb 2. 1927. She and Mr. Lierman had made their home In Idaho since.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter Byrdna, at home, her mother. Mrs. Lisette Meyer, 320 Independence avenue. Waterloo who was with her during the final two weeks of her fatnl illness; a brother, Leslie Meyer, 309 Adams street and a sister. Mrs. Earl Walker. 320 Independence avenue. Her father, George Meyer, died 14 years ago. A sister. Artls Meyer, died March 26 1930.
A private service at the Joseph Kelling residence in Denver, followed by a public service at the Evangelical church, are planned, with Rev. George Krugcr officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.

B. I. "Birdie" Ellsworth, 84, of Tucson, AZ, and formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (November 3, 2013) at San Nicolas Assisted Living Center in Tucson, AZ.
Byrdna I. Lierman was born on March 1, 1929 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the daughter Gladys Alice Boetticher and Jack Swires Glanville. Birdie was blessed to be adopted at one day of age by Erhardt William and Luella Rose (Meyer) Lierman. She graduated from Filer High School in Idaho.
On June 8, 1947 Birdie was united in marriage to Roy Ellsworth, of Waterloo, IA, in Twin Falls. They made their home in Waterloo for 13 years before moving to Mason City in 1962.
Birdie attended and graduated from Pitzie's School of Cosmetology. She worked as a Beautician at the LaMaray Beauty Salon. She then began work at A.C. Nielson Co. where she would be employed for 18 years before her retirement in 1987.
She stayed active in many organizations including scouting, church circles, volunteering for Mercy Hospital, the Mason City Library, and the Nature Center. She also was active in the Garden Club of Mason City, a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and formerly served on the Elmwood – St. Joseph Cemetery Board. Birdie's primary interest was genealogy and was a member of the North Iowa Genealogy Society.
Those grateful in sharing in Birdie's life are her daughters, Debra Hamernick (Lee), Marana, AZ, and Sue Riese (Ron), South St. Paul, MN; her son, Rex Ellsworth, Miami, FL; four grandchildren; Alex (Jennifer) Hamernick, Brian (Lisa) Hamernick, Daniel (Nikki) Hamernick, Christopher Odegaard and his partner Bobby Jo McWilliam; 7 great grand children; Brianna, Samantha, Brady and Sierra Hamernick, Dominic and Mariah Odegaard and Morgan Massa and siblings, Lorene Erickson, Weiser, ID., and David Matthews, Seattle, WA.; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy.
