Augusta "Gusty" Olson, 105, of Oakes, ND, passed away February 27, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Oakes.
Gusty, daughter of Henry and Margaret (Ulmer) Zimbelman, was born on the family farm in Porter Township, Dickey County, ND, on September 13, 1911. She attended grade school in Porter Township. She was baptized and confirmed in The Evangelical Reform Church in Fullerton.
Gusty worked as a housekeeper and nanny and also at the North American Creamery in Oakes. On October 17, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harold Olson in Fullerton, ND. They lived and farmed in the Glover area for five years, and then moved to the Fullerton area to farm until they moved to Oakes, in 1967. She worked at the Good Samaritan Center for 16 years, and also volunteered there as well. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Gusty enjoyed volunteering, quilting, playing bingo, gardening, and taking trips out to the farm, and spending time with her family. She was always outside, either tending to her garden, and mowing her lawn. She took pride in her flowers. She also loved her many trips to Lake Lida.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Howard) Oppegard and Gary (Karen) Olson; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren. Gusty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, infant daughter, Norma Jean, and two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Oakes. Burial will be at Mapleview Cemetery, Fullerton, ND.
