He was confirmed at the Lutheran church at Andover May 10, 1877. Early in the spring of 1883 he with his parents arrived at Edgar, Clay Co Nebraska and he has been living in the vicinity of Edgar since the time.
He was a charter member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Edgar, which was organized in 1882. In 1922 he transferred with the membership of the congregation to the newly organized church of Gethsemane Lutheran in Ong.
His parents, four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Surviving him are one brother, August of Edgar and many other relatives.
Services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of J M McGhie of Edgar, due to the bad roads which made it impossible to have services at his home. The funeral services were conducted by the vice pastor Rev Glenn L Stenholm. All the songs that were sung at the home, church and cemetery were sung by Mrs Emmert Nelson and Mrs Carl Erickson and Miss Ruth Christenson was the accompanist. The opening song at the home was the first two stanzas of the hymn, "Jesus Lover of My Soul" after which the scripture was read, 1 Thess 4:13-18; John 11: 21-27 and prayer offered. The closing song at the home was the two last stanzas of the same hymn.
Services were held at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church at Ong at 2:30 p.m. Miss Ruth Christenson played during the processional and the recessional. The opening hymn at the church was "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say." after which the word of God was read from the fourteenth chapter of John and prayer offered. The song previous to the message was "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me" after which the message was given. The text for the message was Matthew 24: 42-44 with the theme, "Be Ye Also Ready". The obituary was read and the closing hymn at the church was "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." During the viewing of the body several appropriate hymns were played by Miss Christenson.
Interment was at the Edgar cemetery.
"There is a Land That Is Fairer Than Day" was sung as the closing song at the grave. Peace to his memory.
