Lydia Katherina Adolf passed away on January 21, 2007 at the Burlington Care Center at the age of 96.
Lydia was born on January 16, 1911 to John and Maria (Dobler) Stahlecker at their home north of Bethune, Colorado. She was one of 11 siblings born to this union. On February 19, 1911, Lydia was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Lydia’s family moved to Mosca, Colorado in 1923 where she was confirmed in Christ at her parent's home.
In April, 1925, Lydia was honored to travel by train and present her speech Greater Colorado at the state Oratorical Contest in Denver, a five day trip with all expenses paid. While there she was able to listen to the Senate in session at the Capitol, as well as shaking hands with Governor Billy Adams. She graduated from the 8th grade while in Mosca. In 1931, the family moved back to Bethune.
John and Lydia were united in marriage on October 6, 1932 at the Hope Congregational Church in Bethune, Colorado. To this union three children were born; Harold, Wilford and Velda Adolf.
She was a member of Hope Congregational Church, and Hope Missionary and Aid Society, as well as RSVP, and past member of the Hospital Auxiliary, and East Central Council of Governments. She always looked forward to quilting days at the Senior Center.
After John's passing in 1974, Lydia worked at the Burlington Care Center as a cook for several years. She, herself, became a resident there in May, 2006 and resided there until the day of her death.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, five sisters and four brothers.
She is survived by her children Harold and wife Marilyn Adolf of Stratton, Colorado; Wilford and wife Nikki Adolf of Bethune, Colorado and Velda Adolf of Burlington, Colorado. She is also survived by one sister Dorothea Klein of Wray, Colorado, sister-in-laws Vera Stahlecker of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Doris Stahlecker of Canyon, Texas; six grandchildren Shandra Adolf, Todd (Lorraine) Adolf, Sheri (Jon) Thompson, Charlene (Dennie) Flock, Dawn (Brad) Jackson and Stony Adolf; five great grandchildren Tyler and Sydney Flock, Chayanne Jackson, Cody Adolf and Makayla Adolf.

As quoted by one of her nieces, Lydia was a beautiful, precious lady; she was so faithful and loving-a powerful witness of Jesus' love. Another niece quoted, Aunt Lydia definitely lived her faith, and her strong belief in God spills over to all of us. Lydia was blessed and honored to be a mother, grandmother and aunt to countless family and friends.
Funeral services for Lydia were held on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:30 AM at the Hope Congregational Church with Pastor Carl Rogers officiating. Burial followed in the Hope Cemetery, Bethune, Colorado.
