George Winckler, 89, Harrold, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, Golden Living Center, Pierre. Visitation will be Friday, July 25, 2008, 6:00 to 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service, Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home, Pierre. Funeral service will be Saturday, July 26, 2008, 10:30 am, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harrold. Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. George Winckler was born December 14, 1919 in Harrold, SD to Jacob and Magdelina (Stiefel) Winckler. He graduated from Harrold High School in 1937. George later served in the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged on June 10, 1945. He returned to Harrold and had retail businesses in Harrold until 1961. George then went to work for the Department of Revenue in the Property Tax Division form 1961 until 1982 when he retired. George continued to live in Harrold until he moved to Golden Living Center due to health reasons.
George was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harrold. He also served on the Harrold town board for many years. George enjoy fishing, polishing stones and checking on people around Harrold.
George is survived by his son Marty and wife Sharon of Harrold; four grandchildren Cecil, Stephanie, Sarah, and Karen; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother Donald Winckler; one sister Naomi Meyer.
George was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, and six sisters.
