The following is part of son Jacob's biography of his family contributed to the Cheyenne County History book: Chris and Lizzie Samler were Germans from Russia. The spelling of the Samler name was changed from Semmler to Samler during the emigration of Chris Samler and his two brothers David and John...They left Lichtental, Akkerman, Bessarabia, Russia--now Moldova and Ukraine--in 1907...Chris...entered the United States via Canada at age 19 and lived with other German speaking families northwest of St. Francis. Since he spoke and read virtually no English, he tried attending one of the country schools along with the children during the winter months. His pride, however, did not permit him to persevere in this endeavor so he dropped out quickly… Lizzie...came to the new world with her parents when she was about 4 years old. She grew up in the St. Francis area.
Chris and Lizzie spent most of their lives on a farm in northwest Cheyenne County. Chris was a talented judge of cattle and had great pride in his workhorses. He was probably one of the last farmers to relinquish horsepower for tractor-drawn equipment. In the early 1930s he built a large horse barn of native rock. Its walls will probably still be standing many generations from now...

Robert R. "Sam" Samler Sr., 72, formerly of Randall, Minnesota died Aug. 15, 2011, in Casa Grande, Arizona. sam was born Jan. 30, 1939, in Yoncalla, Oregon, the son of the late Charles L. Carrier and Marcella Hardwick. At age two, he was adopted by Oscar Samler.
Sam grew up during the family's farming operations in Southwest Nebraska and graduated from Parks (Nebraska) High School. He then attended Waverly College in Waverly, Iowa graduating with an A.A. degree. He entered the U. S. Army in February 1960. He was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in November 1962.
On June 18, 1960, he married Donna Lee Rasmussen at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The couple had four children, Robert Jr., Robine, Jeff and Greg Samler. They lived in California from 1962-1974, the year Donna Lee passed away.
On Aug. 30, 1975, he married DeNae A. Sanders in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minnesota. The couple moved to Randall, Minnesota in 1976 and had two children, Tonya and Matthew.
Sam was employed at Camp Ripley, Minnesota, as a Federal Civilian Technician for 23 years until retiring in 1999.
Survivors are: wife, DeNae Samler; sons, Robert, Jr. and wife, Kim Samler, of Randall, Jeff and wife, Lynn Samler of Fort Ripley, Minnesota, Matthew and wife, Nicole Samler of Kodak, Tennessee and son Greg Samler of Sartell, Minnesota; daughters, Robine Mayer of Little Falls, Minnesota, and Tonya and husband, Kelly Maciej of Elmdale, Minnesota; a brother, David Samler of Benkelman, Nebraska; sister, Beth Sherlock of Florida; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert heiratete Rasmussen, Donna Lee am 18 Jun 1960 in Fort Leonard Wood, Pulaski County, Missouri, USA. Donna wurde geboren am 28 Jan 1940; gestorben am 4 Okt 1974 in ,,, USA; wurde beigesetzt in Wilson Cemetery, Independence, Buchanan County, Iowa, USA. [Familienblatt] [Familientafel]
