    Mabel Frances Kappelman was born Oct. 27, 1896, to Wesley M. and Emma Walters at Ripley W. VA., and Died Saturday, July 23 1966, At the Rock County hospital in Bassett, Nebr., at the age of 69 years, eight months and 26 days.
    In the spring os 1908 she moved with her family to Fairfax, S.D., where she grew to womanhood.
    On June 21st, 1919, She was united in marriage to Charles Kappelman at Lake Andes, S.D. They lived in Gregory county until they moved to Keya Paha county, Nebr., in 1935. They moved to Springview in 1957 upon retirement.
    Mrs. Kappelman is survived by three sons, Charles Jr., Burton Nebr., George, Winner, S.D., and Jack, Nampa, Ida.; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Frances) Hoffman, Dallas, S.D., and Mrs. Leon (Bertha) Weidner, Bassett, Nebr.,; one brother, George Walters, Larmie, Wyo.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Harrison, Winner, Mrs, Verginia Cerney and Mrs. Dorothy Shipman of Burke, S.D., and 20 Grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, two sisters, one daughter and one granddaughter.
    Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 26, at the Sprringview auditorium with the Rev. C. Curtis Norlin of the Springview Methodist church and the Rev. Lenore Ball of the General Baptist church of Springview occiciating. Music was provided by Mrs. Duane Philben, Mrs. Vance Baker and Mrs. Norman Nelson who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. T.G. Weddel.
    Pallbearers were Ivan Chase, Glen Schrantz, Neil Clopton, Alva Wiley, Duane Schoettger and Ceile Ripley. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery at Springview.

    Mabel heiratete Kappelman, Charles August Sr. am 21 Jun 1919 in Lake Andes, Charles Mix County, South Dakota, USA.     Frances Nadine Hoffman was born May 7, 1930 on the Mulehead Ranch north of Bonesteel, SD. Part of the ranch was rented by her parents Mabel Frances (Walters) and Charles August Kappelman, Sr. One of five children, Frances attended rural schools in Nebraska and South Dakota, graduating from Keya Paha High School in Springview, Nebraska in 1948.
    After graduation Frances taught rural school in Nebraska.
    Raymond Jacob Hoffman and Frances became acquainted at a dance in Wewela, SD on Friday, August 13, 1949. By coincidence, their wedding day was Saturday, August 26, 1950, one year and 13 days after they met. They always considered 13 to be their lucky number.
    They were married at Union Congregational Church in Gregory where they were devoted and faithful members for their entire lives.
    Ray and Frances lived in Dallas for a few months, then purchased the family farm south of Dallas from Ray's mother where they made their home for their entire lifetime. This was the same house where Ray had been born. They raised their family of three sons on the farm. Timothy Raymond born November 24, 1953; Rodney Dean born April 12, 1955; Michael Scott born May 16, 1957. When the children were raised Ray and Frances did some traveling which included a trip to Pearl Harbor.
    Frances was active in the Dallas American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary in Winner. She enjoyed visiting her relatives, collecting match books, stamps and coins. Ray and Frances spend many Saturday nights dancing at Carlock.
    Frances worked as a receptionist at the Gregory Community Hospital and also as a bookkeeper at the Dallas Coop Elevator. Later she worked sewing at the cap factory in Gregory.
    Frances died on August 16, 2010, at the age of 80 years.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents, two sons: Timothy and Rodney, one infant daughter, two brothers George and Charles Kappelman; one sister Bertha Weidner and one nephew Paul Kappelman. Her brother Jack Kappelman passed away only two days after Frances.
    She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Melanie of Gregory, SD; 5 grandchildren: Nicole Hoffman, Cameron Hoffman, Ben Hoffman, Brooke Hoffman, and Michael Hoffman Jr. and 3 step-grandchildren: Derek Nelson, Danielle Goldade, and Desisree Nelson and 6 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Thelma Kappelman of Napa, Idaho, and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

    Frances heiratete Hoffman, Raymond Jacob am 26 Aug 1950.     Funeral services are scheduled for Michael Hoffman on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Union Congregational Church in Gregory with Pastor Tim Voigt officiating. Music was provided by Kati Champlin, soloist, accompanied by DeNalda Fortuna, organist.
    The eulogy was given by Steve Matthes, and Lizzy Klein Bolander and Monica Pochop were in charge of registration. Desiree and Danielle Nelson and Melissa Berndt were flower attendants.
    Casket bearers were Jeff Barber, Richard Hoffman, Kenneth Rotter, Don Spreckels, Gary Travnicek and Milo Klein, Jr.
    Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Gregory. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
    Michael Scott Hoffman was born in Gregory on May 16, 1957 to Raymond and Frances (Kappelman) Hoffman. He grew up on the family farm south of Dallas with his two brothers Tim and Rodney. He attended Gregory Schools and graduated from Gregory High School in 1975. Mike enjoyed his childhood on the farm and it formed his enjoyment of farming and cattle. Mike worked on the family farm and in 1979 married Lisa Bachman. Two children were born into that marriage, Brooke and Michael Jr. Mike and Lisa were later divorced.
    Mike met Melanie Hanson and later united in holy matrimony on September 14, 2002. Melanie had three children, Derek, Danielle and Desiree Nelson. On that day, two families joined as one, and Mike and Melanie made their home north of Gregory and took over the family farm.
    He was commonly known as "Big Mike" and he lived up to that name. He enjoyed spending time with his five kids and six grandkids. Mike really enjoyed ranching and all of his cattle, but learned to relax and enjoy his family and friends and to travel. He spent most of his time outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting (especially hog hunting), hiking and four-wheeling. Mike had a strong faith in the Lord and always had many words of wisdom. He was such a joy to be around. He had a sense of humor and was truly a great hardworking man.
    Mike was preparing to work cattle on Saturday morning, September 1, 2012 when he died unexpectedly of natural causes on his farm. He was 55 years old.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Tim and Rodney and an infant sister.
    He is survived by his wife Melanie of Gregory; his daughter Brooke Hoffman of Tea and his son Michael Jr. of Timber Lake; and his three
    step-children: Derek Nelson of Rapid City, Danielle Goldade of Pierre, and Desiree Nelson of Pierre; his six grandchildren: Jack Gaede, Brayden Goldade, Keira Goldade, Rylee Veskrna, Bree Nelson, Violet Nelson; and by nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
