Johannes SAYLER born on the 23rd of October 1777 in Dornstetten, Freudenstadt, Wuerttemberg was the son of Johannes SAYLER and Anna Maria SCHWENCK.
Johannes married Anna Barbara TRUCK on the 30th of October 1804 in Dornstetten. Johannes and Anna Barbara were blessed with no less than 11 children; Andreas, Johannes, Jacob, Maria, Christian, Friedrich, Gottlieb, Rosina, Mathaeus, Jacob and David.
Only 1 of their children as an adult is known to have immigrated to America.
Johannes SAYLER died on the 21st of November 1855 in Johannestal, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia.

Johannes Sailer was a Citizen and Butcher of Dornstetten Germany and Becherwirth. Beckerwirth is perhaps a "owner of a tavern". A tavern owner was often a butcher as well. The owner would butcher his hogs and sell the meat in his tavern - which was more of a restaurant. Usually the tavern owner was one of the most important people in town, because much of the town's official and unofficial business was taken care of at the tavern.
Stumpp's book lists 4 children born to Johannes Sailer but the Dornstetten documents lists 6 children, five boys and one girl. Apparently three of these children perished from yellow fever, the plague or other disease. Perhaps on the journey from Germany to Russia.

Individual Family records indicate that Johannes SAYLER and his wife may have been amongst the party that traveled with Ludwig BETTE (along with 20 other families) and embarked at Odessa on a sailing vessel on the 1st of July 1849 landing in the United States 103 days later, about the 11th or 12th of October. Since Johannes SAYLER's passport was dated Sep 6th 1872 it is highly unlikely he came to America with this group of people whose destination was Sandusky, Ohio.
After arriving in America the 12 Oct 1872, Johannes SAYLER with his wife and children, Christian, Philip, and Christina stayed on Kelly's Island until he purchased land in Huron, Erie County, Ohio in November of 1872. Johannes's son Philip stayed on the farm and at the time of Johannes death, Philip bought out Christian and Anna's shares.
The county of Lenawee in Michigan has a large number of people who trace their heritage to Johannes and Anna SAYLER. It is in this county that the "SAYLER Reunion of the East" is held each year. The house where Johannes and Anna lived in Huron is no longer there and the farm is no longer a farm.
Johannes and Anna SAYLER were among the founders and sponsors of the Methodist Church at Huron, Ohio. The church has been remodeled several times but the original stained glass windows had been preserved. Of the seven stained glass windows in the church, the only one with a farming theme was the SAYLER window. It has a sheave of wheat and a sickle. There is also a large Bible printed in German near the entrance.

Rosina married Johann Jacob FISCHER on the 9th of December 1841 in Rohrbach, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia. The couple was blessed with no less than 12 children; Magdalena Wilhelmina, Christoph Georg, Gottlieb, Karl, Rosina, Adam, Jacob, Johann Jacob, Johannes, Mathias, David and Christian.

The first incidence where Rosina is mentioned is the 1825 Revision list of the Village of Johannestal in Stump's book " The Emigration From Germany to Russia in the Years 1763 to 1862" pg 714. She is listed as a child Johannes Sayler and Frau Barbara age 2 years. Subtract 2 from 1825 and the birth year for Rosina would be 1823. The date of May 8th was given by Great-Grandson, Robert Fischer of Vancouver, WA from his Fischer Excerpts "The Fischer Family History" - Mathias & Christian. This date was taken from the Bible of the youngest Son of Jacob and Rosina ( Sayler) Fischer, Christian Fischer.
The next time Rosina is found is in the St. Petersburg records of the Rohrbach Parish, Village of Johannestal in the marriage records. Rosina is listed as being married to Johann Jacob Fischer in Dec 1841 - LDS Microfilm # 1883192/2 Page 203.
Throughout the 1830's and the 1840's records for St Petersburg there is only one Rosina Sailer found. There is no other
Female Sailer found in this span of 20 years. It is fairly safe to assume this is the same Rosina Sailer that is listed in Stump's book. The birth year of 1823 would be the approximate marriagable age of the wife of Johann Jacob Fischer.

They came with other members of the Sayler family, trying to escape the draft into the Russia Army. While at sea, a bade storm broke their propeller stern and deck so they had to turn back and go to Ireland to board another ship. It took them six days to reload and get started again. They had another heartbreaking experience when one of their children died and had to be buried at sea. There sea journey took them 36 days.
They continued until they reached Kellys Island, near Sandusky Ohio. Some realtives before them had stayed there when they came from Russia earlier. The group of Saylers that Gottlieb and Barbara traveled with ( about 12 families) did not want to stay, because they wanted to farm together. They arrived in Yankton Territory in 1873 to find enough land for all the families They surveyed land about 3 miles northeast of what is now Lesterville, SD. They started surveying and didn't quit until they had land for everyone. This place they called "Odessa", naming it after the home they left behind in Russia. Gottlieb and Barbara had 15 children. 4 children died in infancy.

Information from Wilbert Heidt of Bismarck, ND - great grandson of Michael Sayler Michael and his wife Carolina Diede came to America from Johannestal, S Russia on the steamship Kaiser Wilhelm, landing in New York city in 1902. It was a 2 week journey. Nine of their 14 children died in Russia and the other five came to America. Michael and his family came first to Scotland, SD to their relatives (Matthew and Maria Sayler) - Matthew being a brother to Michael and Maria being a sister to Carolina. From there they went to North Dakota where they homesteaded in McLean County, 7 miles NW of Garrison, ND. Carolina Sayler died in 1905 from a broken rib which had punctured her lung. Mr. Sayler remarried, person unknown.
Michael and his wife Rosa are found in the 1910 McLean County, ND Census with one child, Charles age 21 born Russia.
Michael's birth record is found in the St. Petersburg, Russia records for the Rohrbach Parish on LDS Microfilm # 1883193/2, pg 244 Reg 33. Godparents are Michael Delzer and wife Dorothea, Friedrich Heinle.

Information from Johannes Sayler Book pg 148 by Verine Reimann Information from McLean County ND Heritage Book pg 267 Andreas and Christina were farmers in Johannestal and started their family there. Five children were born in Johannestal with one son passing away and buried in Johannestal. Andreas's parents, sister and three brothers sold there crop standing in the field and departed for America leaving Johannestal Oct 17 1872 and arrived at Ellis Island on Dec 2 1872 and from there proceeded to Sandusky, Ohio.
Andreas and Christina with their family farmsteaded in Odessa Township in Yankton county, South Dakota. He also had a timber-culture clain in section 21 of Odessa Township. From Yankton County they moved to Hutchinson County, near Olivet, SD near the James River. 8 more children were born in South Dakota. In 1900 Andreas contracted to purchase land 22 miles northwest of Washburn, ND, in Longfellow Township 146 N Range 83 W Section 33. The house was located in the NE 1/4. They continued to farm here. After Christina died in 1904 Andreas married a widow from acorss the river, a Mrs. Schwartz. they lived in Andreas home along with two of Mrs. Schwartz's sons.

The last six years of his life he lived with his grandchildren, the Webers.

Looking for better land, Friedrich Sayler and his wife Barbara Ganzle and their three children left Neuzats, South Russia and come to Menno, SD where they remained eight days. While there they purchased 2 horses, 2 oxen, 2 cows, a wagon and a plow, which they shipped to Eureka by train. The remainder of the trip was made by wagon to the place where the farm is now located six miles NW of Wishek. they brought lumber along for a roof for a sod house and also some kitchen equipment. He was here four years when his wife died, leaving him with five small children, the oldest being 10 years of age and the youngest less than a day old. Friedrich married a second time to Christina Werner and they had nine children.

Frederick SAYLER married Barbara GAENZLE on the 11th of January 1883 in Worms, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia. This union was blessed with no less than 7 children.
Frederick at the age of 29 with his wife Barbara and their children; Barbara, Katherina, Jacob and Karolina, immigrated to America via the Port of Bremen, Germany aboard the SS "America" and arrived at the Port of New York, New York via the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on the 5th of June 1889.
The Frederick SAYLER family settled on a homestead 6 miles northwest of Wishek in Logan County, North Dakota. Barbara (Gaenzle) SAYLER died due to childbirth complications at 31 years of age on the 7th of December 1893.

Therefore, prior to this date by utilizing the "Julian Calendar" their entire populace was recording birth, death and marriage dates that were 10 to 13 calendar days behind the dates of what the majority of the world was recording.

Frederick SAYLER, in the year 1883, married Barbara GAENZLE, born in the year 1862. They had six children prior to coming to America, Peter died in infancy and was buried in South Russia.
Barbara, Katharina, Jacob, Friedrich and Karolina immigrated to America with their parents in 1889. The Frederick SAYLER family left their parents, brothers, sisters, and friends in search of a land that offered freedom of religion. Therefore they left Neusatz, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia and journeyed to Menno, Hutchinson County, South Dakota where they remained eight days. While there they purchased two horses, two oxen, two cows, a wagon and a plow, which were shipped to Eureka, South Dakota by train.
The remainder of their trip was made by wagon to Eureka to pick up their belongings. They proceeded to the land they homesteaded, which was located six miles northwest of Wishek in Logan County, Township 133, Range 71, ¼ of Section 32, school district Johannesdale. They also brought some kitchen equipment and lumber at Menno for the roof of their sod house.
The children born in North Dakota were William and Margret. Barbara (Gaenzle) SAYLER died due to childbirth complications at 31 years of age on December 7, 1893. They were only in America four years when she died, leaving Friedrich with five small children, the oldest being nine and the youngest less than a day old. The death certificate at the state capital recorded her burial place as Johannesdale Township, Section 28, NE ¼.
To combat very long and cold winters they used dried manure for fuel for their stove. The stove itself was built of stone and mud. The crops were poor and all the planting was done by hand. Plowing was done with a hand plow pulled by a pair of oxen. Prairie fires were not unusual and often destroyed the fodder for the cattle.
Frederick SAYLER remarried on January 12, 1894 to Christina WERNER, daughter of David WERNER and Philippina (Nagel) WERNER, who was born January 21, 1874. To this union 11 children were born; Henry, Edward, Fred, Emma, Lydia, Martha, Bertha, Christ, Albert, Ida, and Christina.
One of Mr. SAYLER's greatest joys was attending prayer meetings and revivals, which were held in various homes. Frederick SAYLER died January 23, 1930 and is buried in "Wishek City Cemetery". Christina SAYLER lived to be over 107 years old and died August 4, 1982.

The date and place of Matthaeus Fischer is given by Robert Fischer from his Fischer excerpts "The Fischer Family History" pg 6. The marriage date for Mathias and Katharine ( 1890 ) was given by Robert Fischer, but he states this is a guess at this point.
Mathias served 7 years in the Johannesthal and was a police ( called Schulz ) for 3 years. He then settled down to farming in that area. In 1912, Mathias took his family to the US. settling in Hebron, ND. Later that year he died of a disease which he had contracted from horses, according to his wife, Katherine. His grave and that of Adam Fischer, his 2nd cousin are located in a small defunct cemetery near Newberg church, about 10 miles NW of Burt, ND.

! Information from Robert Fischer of Vancouver, WA Christian was the youngest son of Johann Jakob Fischer. The family Bible shows that he and Margaretha Elser were married in 1890 in the Colony of Worms, South Russia by Pastor Daniel Steinwand. About 1900 Christian and his family immigrated to America settling on a farm North of Bismarck, ND. The farmsite is now covered by the backwaters of the Garrison Dam. Poor crops and a hard winter on the livestock resulted in their losing the farm in 1909 or early 1910. Christian then went to work for International Harvester in Garrison for a few years. In 1915 he moved the family to Bismarck and from there to Coal Harbor - Turtle Lake area in 1916 where he again attempted to farm. He married a 2nd time to Katherine Eiseman Berg in 1916. She had 5 sons from a previous marriage. During a typical cold Dakota winter, Christian froze or severely had frost bite on his left foot. Gangrene-type infections plaqued him for the rest of his life. Because of his health problems, farming became difficult so in 1920 the farm and all machinery were sold. The family moved to Custer, Montana where they worked in the beat fields for about a year. In Nov 1920 the family went to Spokane for a few months where they visited Christian's aunt, Elizabeth (Fischer) Marks, the daughter of Christian's brother Gottlieb Fischer. Christian and his wife Katherine then returned to Bismarck in order for him to obtain Medical assistance. Blood poisoning finally took his life in Oct 1921 at the age of 52. According to a Granddaughter, Christian was rather gifted as a singer and could play several musical instruments.
