    Alvin A. "Al" Hieb

    Funeral for former McMinnville resident Alvin A. "Al" Hieb of Tigard at 1 p.m. Saturday in Deb Fennell Auditorium at Tigard High School. Dr. Randy Harvey will officiate.
    Mr. Hieb died Sept. 30, 2004, at his home. He was 62. Private family interment is planned.
    He was born June 20, 1942, in Tripp, S.D., son of Alfred and Orina Sloebner Hieb. He lived his early years in South Dakota, then moved to McMinnville in 1956. He graduated from McMinnville High School in 1960 and then received his degree in business accounting from Linfield College in 1960.
    He and Sydney Sherwood married Aug. 19, 1967, in McMinnville. Mr. Hieb lived on the east side of Portland for several years before moving to Tigard in 1972. He worked for the General Accountng Office of the federal government for 22 years and traveled all across the U.S.
    After his retirement, Mr. Hieb purchased The Regal Courier, a senior-oriented newspaper. He loved to fish and golf and was very active in community service. For eight years, he was a member of the Tigard-Tualatin School District Board of Directors. He also had been a member of the Kiwanis Club and the chamber of commerce.
    He and Cherrie Harvey married April 28, 2002, in Tigard.
    Survivors include his wife of Tigard; three sons, Jason Hieb of Beaverton, Eric Hieb of Canby and Adam Hieb of Tigard; a stepson, Scott Harvey of West Linn; a stepdaughter, Gretchen Cunningham of Alameda, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
    Arrangements are by Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
