    OBITUARY
    (Provided by Alexandra Samborskaya)
COLORFUL PIONEER, PETER STOLLER, 74, DIES EARLY SATURDAY
The community was grieved last weekend to learn of the death of one of its best known and colorful pioneers, Mr. Peter Stoller, who died at Castor Hospital early Saturday morning, September 29 at the age of 74 years. He had been in ill health for the past several months and on September 15 he took a turn for the worse, from which he never recovered.
The late Mr.Stoller, known as "Pete" to his many friends, possessed a friendly disposition and good humor which will be missed in the community. He was always ready to entertain his friends with his humorous anecdotes. He was especially known for his life of the children in the community.
Born in Odessa, Russia, in 1877, Mr. Stoller lived in distant parts of the world before he finally settled in the Castor district. In his early years in Russia, he was associated with his father in the manufacture of wagons, buggies und burial caskets. They employed a large staff for this work and turned out their goods on an assembly line basis. Along with the manufacture of this, the family also operated a winery (selling wine).
Later the family disposed of their business and moved to Brasil and settled in the metropolitan city Rio de Janeiro. The change was made owing to his mother's health, where it was thought that the change of climate might restore her health. However, after a short time there, the family returned to Russia.
On his return to Russia, Mr. Stoller joined the Russian army where he served for a few years. In Oktober 1901, he returned to his home village near Odessa and married. Four years later, Mr. And Mrs. Stoller decided to come to America, the land they heard so much about. They arrived in the United States in the latter part of 1905 and settled in North Dakota later moving to Montana. They then returned to Bowden, North Dakota where they made their home for five years.
Mr. Stoller heard a lot about the opportunities in the newer land of Canada, so on June 2, 1910, Mr. and Mrs. Stoller arrived in the district and settled on a homestead near Alliance. Five years later, after proving their land, they sold the homestead and moved to Walla Walla, Washington. After a year there, Mr. Stoller decided that Alberta was no doubt a better place of opportunity, so the family once again retraced their paths and returned to the Castor district, this time settling six miles south of town. After four years on the farm, the family moved into town, where they have made their home ever since.
Mr. Stoller's experience in the carpentry work made him a valuable crafsman here throughout the years. In fact, it is said that he had a hand in building most of the frame houses in Castor and district.
