Martha Winckler was born on September 10, 1916 in Harrold, SD, to Jacob and Magdalena (Stiefel) Winckler.
Martha was baptized in the Lutheran faith and remained a faithful servant all her life.
Growing up in Harrold, she graduated from Harrold High School in 1934. She worked at several different jobs and then worked for the state Department of Motor Vehicles in commercial licensing.
Through the years, Martha enjoyed and was very involved with her church. She taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, belonged to numerous ladies' organizations in the church, helped with preparing church bulletins to be mailed, and enjoyed helping with many other church-related activities. Martha was always willing to provide a helping hand to her family and friends.
She was survived by her brothers, Carl and his wife Carol Winckler of Pierre, George Winckler of Harrold, and Donald and his wife Arlene Winckler of Kansas City, Mo.; her sisters, Naomi Meyer of Harrold and Shirley Gould of Helena, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three half sisters, three brothers, four half brothers, a niece and two nephews, and a number of in-laws.
Martha died at the age of 89 on Friday, March 24, 2006, at St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Pierre.
A prayer service was held at Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home on Monday, March 27. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre, with the Rev. Brad Urbach officiating.

Carl Winckler, 88, of Pierre, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, Maryhouse Nursing Center, Pierre, S.D. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home, Pierre. Funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, 10:30 a.m., Faith Lutheran Church, Pierre. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Pierre.
Carl A. Winckler was born on May 31, 1918, in Harrold to Jacob and Magdalena (Stiefel) Winckler. He grew up in Harrold and graduated from Harrold High School in 1936. Following high school, Carl moved to Pierre and worked for the AAA Office. Carl married Carol Byrum on June 21, 1942, in Pierre. Shortly after their marriage, Carl left to serve in the Army in North Africa and Europe during World War II. When he returned home, he and Carol started a family. He became manager of the Stanley County Coop grain elevator in Fort Pierre, and worked there until his retirement. Later he helped part time at the Feigum Funeral Home.
Throughout his life, Carl was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He was an active member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre, and enjoyed serving the church in many capacities, including elder, treasurer, and president. Carl enjoyed gardening, fishing, pheasant hunting, tennis, bowling and woodworking.
Carl is survived by one son, Arthur of Stanwood, Wash.; three daughters, Linda Palmer of Sioux Falls, Joyce Solem and her husband Nathan of Pierre, and Marylinn Baker and her husband Phil of Pierre; eight grandchildren. Britt Palmer, Bryan Solem, Daniel Solem, Trina (Solem) Ashour, J.R. Winckler, Melanie Winckler, Jessalinn Baker and Wylin Baker; one sister Naomi Meyer of Harrold; two brothers George Winckler of Harrold and Donald Winckler and his wife Arlene of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one son, Walter and thirteen brothers and sisters.

George Winckler was born December 14, 1919 in Harrold, SD to Jacob and Magdelina (Stiefel) Winckler. He graduated from Harrold High School in 1937. George later served in the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged on June 10, 1945. He returned to Harrold and had retail businesses in Harrold until 1961. George then went to work for the Department of Revenue in the Property Tax Division form 1961 until 1982 when he retired. George continued to live in Harrold until he moved to Golden Living Center due to health reasons.
George was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harrold. He also served on the Harrold town board for many years. George enjoy fishing, polishing stones and checking on people around Harrold.
George is survived by his son Marty and wife Sharon of Harrold; four grandchildren Cecil, Stephanie, Sarah, and Karen; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother Donald Winckler; one sister Naomi Meyer.
George was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, and six sisters.

Ella Rose Hieb was born on Friday, January 13, 1911 to Christian and Eva (Winckler) Hieb in rural Tripp, South Dakota. She grew up on the family farm five miles south and five miles west of Tripp alongside her sister Otilia and three brothers: Kuni, Emil, and Ruben. Ella was confirmed on June 28, 1925 in the Reformed Church in Tripp. As a young child, she helped her family on the farm. In 1947, a few years after Christian’s passing on December 11, 1933, Ella, her mother, and two brothers moved into Scotland. Ella took care of her mother until 1979 when her mother became ill and entered the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland.
Ella loved to garden and nurtured one of the best gardens in the neighborhood. Surrounding her house and garden, an array of beautiful flowers and shrubs could always be seen. Ella spent many years in her home in Scotland enjoying her garden and canning her many delicious home-grown vegetables. She also enjoyed bird watching and kept bird feeders in her backyard year round.
Ella enjoyed crafts, especially painting. She also had a passion for collecting splendid glass items of various colors and styles, as seen in her lovely glassware display in her home.
Ella was a fabulous cook and loved cooking a special meal for the out-of-state hunters that came each fall for pheasant hunting. The hunters would rave about the wonderful meal that awaited them at the end of a long day of hunting.
Ella was a good friend to many folks in the neighborhood. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help; whether it was a young mother who needed help with her child or someone older who needed assistance with chores they no longer could do.
Through the years, Ella enjoyed the friendship of her many Winckler and Hieb cousins. She had a special fondness for her cousin Martha (Winckler) Thum and husband Oscar. Ella spent holidays with the Thum family and was included in all of the family events. Evelyn and John Haynes were wonderful neighbors to Ella. In later years and into Ella’s residence at the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland, Evelyn helped Ella with various tasks. Ella relied on Evelyn for many years and was so happy to have her help. Another dear and close friend of hers for many years was Marge Ackerman, who helped Ella in several ways.
Many folks may recall only seeing her green 1955 Plymouth car Ella driving to church on Sundays. Ella was a devoted member of the church and attended every Sunday service as long as her health allowed her to. On occasion you would see her driving her Plymouth up town, but rarely for she preferred to walk every day to the post office and grocery store.
In 2002, after suffering with back pain that did not allow her to take care of her house and beloved garden, Ella decided to move into the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland. She resided there for nearly 13 years until her passing on Sunday, October 11, 2015 having attained the age of 104 years, 8 months, and 28 days.
Cherishing the memory of Ella is her one remaining cousin, Ben (Sophie) Winckler of Tyndall; second cousin Marvin (Agnes) Thum of Scotland and their children David Thum of Vermillion, Steven Thum of Vermillion, and Lorissa (Robert) Evans of Spearfish; second cousin Viona (Brooks) Ranney of Yankton; second cousin Marilyn (Ernest) Kratz of Yankton and their children Lisa Kratz of Cedar Falls, IA and Greg (Stacey) Kratz and family of Midvale, UT; second cousin Donna Mouser of Scottsdale, AZ and her son Randy (Lisa) Ulmer of Hartford; many other cousins in the Tripp and Tyndall area; and special friends Evelyn Haynes and Marge Ackerman.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and sister-in-law Lila Hieb.

SUNNYSIDE, WA - Oscar T. Winckler 86 of Zillah passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Hillcrest Manor, Sunnyside.
Oscar was born May 25, 1919 in Harold South Dakota to Gottlieb and Christina Winckler. He moved with his family to the Zillah area in 1934 where he began farming. Oscar farmed his whole life, working first with his Dad and brothers and later with his son and son-in-law. He continued to work into his 80's until he retired due to illness.
Oscar enjoyed being with his family and especially loved his grandchildren. In later years he and Virginia traveled, spending time wintering in Arizona with Virginia's family. Oscar was a WWII veteran and a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Zillah for 64 years.
Oscar is survived by his wife of 48 years Virginia, his daughter Christy and David Ivy, a son Tom and Terri Winckler, 4 grandchildren; Angela and Melissa Ivy, Tanner and Tierra Winckler all of Zillah, 3 brothers Reinhold Winckler and Leonard Winckler both of Zillah, Harold Winckler of Benton City; 2 sister Kathryn Kunnanz of Yakima, Marie Ravine of Zillah, numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents and 2 sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, August 5, 2005 at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah. Interment to follow in the Zillah City Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 9-5 Thursday (Today), August 4, 2005 at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah. Following the service everyone is invited to Grace Lutheran Church for refreshments and fellowship. Memorial in Oscar's name maybe made to Grace Lutheran Church, Zillah.

ZILLAH - Reinhold Winckler passed away May 21, 2011, at the age of 90. Reinhold was born May 1, 1921 in Harold, South Dakota and moved with his family as a teenager to Washington after a brief stay in Idaho. He moved to Zillah in 1935 where he farmed with his brothers. Reinhold worked on the family farm until he was 88 before retiring due to health reasons. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Zillah.
He is survived by his brother Leonard (Olive) Winckler and sister Marie Ravine of Zillah, sisters-in law Virginia Winckler of Zillah and Myra Winckler of Benton City and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gottlieb and Christina Winckler, brothers Oscar and Harold Winckler, sisters Elsa Dewald, Emma Moser and Katherine Kunnanz.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 27th at the Zillah City Cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of choice. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.
