Pam Walz:
Military service - US Army. Started at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Then went to training in San Diego. Was stationed in Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska. Protecting the Allutions Islands. He was a staff sargent and processed the privates and those men went to the fighting front. Served the end of his term in Texas.
Died:
WL Hap Finck, 90, passed from this life in Gold Canyon, Ariz., on May 14, 2010. He was born in Lehr on Dec. 4, 1919, to Conrad and Lydia (Leischner) Finck. He earned the nickname ``Happy´´ at an early age because he was such a happy child. The nickname shortened to Hap and was used by all family and friends.
WL Hap served as staff sergeant in the military, at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska, protecting the Aleutians during World War II.
He graduated from Dakota Business College in 1941 with honors. Served as treasurer in Logan County, N.D., Hap spent most of his career as a civil servant as a federal examiner for the Farm Credit Administration, St. Paul, Minn.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Elaine (Hieb) Finck; sons, Steven, Las Vegas, Nev., and Kurt, Flagstaff, Ariz.; daughter, Pam (Steve) Walz, Irmo, S.C.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Dan, Kassi, Katie, Stesha, Natasha and Kolton; great-grandchild, Michael; and sisters, LaVern, Alice and Phyllis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Daniel, Lawrence, Leo, Milton and Henry.
He was very active in the United Methodist Church, serving on building, men´s club and financial committees.
Hap was very social and participated in bowling, horseshoes, traveling and gathering with friends.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 21, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m today at Parkway Funeral Service.
